Jay Tedeschi, BSM – D&M Technical Marketing Specialist, joined Autodesk in October of 1994. His primary focus is promoting the use and adoption of Autodesk’s suite of engineering, design and manufacturing software products. Prior to joining Autodesk, Jay spent 12 years as a Design Engineer in support of the United States Naval Undersea Systems/Warfare Center in New London CT.These responsibilities were primarily related to R&D and production design of various components of Attack Submarine Combat Systems. Subsequent to this, he was employed at PTC Aerospace, where he was part of an R&D team tasked with advanced product design for aircraft crew and passenger seating.

This class will cover how we used InfraWorks software in conjunction with AutoCAD Civil 3D software, ReCap software, and Inventor software to carry out the concept design for an innovative new transportation system in the United Arab Emirates. You will learn how we used reality capture methods such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to produce digital terrain and surface models from photos, and how we mapped the existing road layout and topography using laser scans as well as ground-penetrating radar for underground utilities to construct a digital model of the proposed system alignment in InfraWorks. It will also cover how the information was brought in using other Autodesk products, such as ReCap for the point cloud capture, AutoCAD Civil 3D for the utilities, and Inventor to create parametric bridge objects for use in InfraWorks as the unique support structure for the transportation system. Also, we'll demonstrate how we were able to bring all the above together to provide the client with the assurance that the system would work and fit the site aesthetics with confidence.
Construction site layout plans are integral to Construction management and involve placing and sizing site equipment and temporary structures.<br/><br/>While Infraworks supports 3D objects, there is no support for generic parametric 3D objects. This meant NCC had to model separate objects for each variation of size which is impractical. NCC worked with Autodesk on a solution that provides parametric objects, modelled in Inventor and resizable in Infraworks.<br/><br/>The new workflow reduces NCC process times by about 15%, but more importantly, it offers several new tools to create 3D models using a variety of 2D/3D data and to visualise, simulate, communicate and gather comments.It shows existing conditions to visualise complexity during site layout planning.It also provides a simple interface and easy access to predefined objects, which is crucial for implementing this solution across NCC.<br/><br/>In this class, NCC will share their experience of creating construction site layout plans using Infraworks.
Dynamic shifts have emerged in the digital realm of building design and physical methods of off-site fabrication. Buildings are increasingly manufactured/assembled rather than constructed/crafted. This class will present these digital procedures for modelling buildings in Revit whilst simultaneously assembling and managing your building components through Dynamo and into Inventor for fabrication. This entails navigating a hierarchy of linked/nested Revit models, families, and formulas; aligning the design BIM with detailed fabrication models in Inventor. Dynamo will be applied as a tool to automate, annotate, and design the building layout with assembled components. Orchestrate the building model, drawing sets, and work instructions in Revit alongside Dynamo to lay out building components, visualise building data, component relationships, and simultaneously assemble Revit components for building site context, component assembly in factory layout, and final modules in transportation.

This class will touch on the engineering/design practice of tolerancing parts/drawings using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). The practice has been used in the manufacturing industry for generations, but people tend to shy away from it due to the confusion and rumors that surround it. This class will discuss what GD&T really is and how it can greatly help in making your designs more accurate-and, in turn, save on production waste by way of rejection of far fewer parts that are actually within tolerance.
This presentation will focus on the newly developed Topology Optimization technology now being used in Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software and also found in Autodesk Nastran standalone, Fusion 360 Ultimate software, Inventor Simulation software, and Dreamcatcher software. We will begin with an introduction of how Topology Optimization works, and then we'll focus on the Autodesk Nastran In-CAD interface for Topology Optimization. We will perform several examples that will include how to produce designs with minimized mass and maximized stiffness that comply with various design and manufacturing constraints. Examples will include minimized mass with stress and compliance design constraints and various manufacturing constraints such as additive and subtractive with symmetry. We will show a complete workflow that includes importing optimized .STL geometry and building a verification analysis model.
