This presentation will focus on the newly developed Topology Optimization technology now being used in Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software and also found in Autodesk Nastran standalone, Fusion 360 Ultimate software, Inventor Simulation software, and Dreamcatcher software. We will begin with an introduction of how Topology Optimization works, and then we'll focus on the Autodesk Nastran In-CAD interface for Topology Optimization. We will perform several examples that will include how to produce designs with minimized mass and maximized stiffness that comply with various design and manufacturing constraints. Examples will include minimized mass with stress and compliance design constraints and various manufacturing constraints such as additive and subtractive with symmetry. We will show a complete workflow that includes importing optimized .STL geometry and building a verification analysis model.

David Weinberg

David Weinberg is currently a Senior Software Developer for Autodesk and was the former President/CEO and Founder NEi Software from 1991 to 2014 until the acquisition of NEi by Autodesk in May 2014.He was the primary developer for NEi Nastran and currently leads the team of developers for the widely consumed Autodesk Nastran product.He also developed the Autodesk Nastran in-CAD product while at NEi.He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.He has over 30 years’ experience in FEA simulation working both as a user for several large Aerospace companies and as a developer.

Jeff Strain

Jeff Strain joined Autodesk in 2016 as a Simulation Subject Matter Expert. Prior to joining Autodesk, Jeff worked at an ANSYS reseller for fourteen years providing tech support, training, sales support, and consulting. Jeff also has eight years of experience in the aerospace industry as a structural analysis engineer.
