Brown University School of Engineering is a true IPD (integrated project delivery) project in the United States. BuroHappold Engineering and KieranTimberlake, along with Shawmut Design and Construction and their trade partners, created a plan that would involve complete live collaboration between all parties utilizing Collaboration for Revit cloud service. This involved all parties working in a live model environment while developing their design. Trade partners would be simultaneously coordinating all building systems in preparation for construction. Developing a seamless transition from design to construction model was an opportunity. The team was able to design in Revit software while creating content that was ready for fabrication. The process continued through construction using BIM 360 Glue software for final conflict resolution and then onto BIM Field 360 software, ensuring coordinated installation of all services. You will learn best practices and optimum setup enabling smooth movement of data from team to team and platform to platform for all project scales.

When a progressive health-care client challenged an integrated project delivery team to look for opportunities to enhance collaboration and meet stringent deadlines on a new hospital project in California, the team started investigating several options to enhance coordination among the different teams' model files. After reviewing the available alternatives, and after careful consideration, the team finally selected Collaboration for Revit cloud service. Collaboration for Revit exceeded the expectations of the team members who were not only co-located at a trailer, but were also dispersed in several offices-including overseas. The team was able to work efficiently without restrictions on firewalls, which also enabled for unique workflows between the design and construction teams. In this class, we'll go over this success story while reviewing the key features of Collaboration for Revit, the selection process, setup, tips/tricks, and known limitations. Additionally, we'll look at how BIM 360 software and Collaboration for Revit were used to enhance change management.
This class will showcase the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Marcus Tower expansion and the all-in virtual design involvement on this project. We'll explain how to utilize models and BIM Team/C4R for Revit's cloud-based products and services for multiple aspects of the project, including the involvement in preconstruction for marketing, estimating, and self-perform opportunities; the integration of drone flights and parametric, in-house crane models for site logistics and safety planning; virtual reality for headwall mock-ups; and structural review. We'll complete the discussion with lessons learned for workflow, full-team integration, and training for the all-in approach.
Following a 12-year planning period, HOK was commissioned with the design of the Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah, considered one of the largest aviation projects under construction in the United States. In 2017, the airport launched a new 740,000-square-foot concourse expansion to the ongoing project, bringing the total area to 2.3 million square feet, with a total construction cost to $2.8 billion. This provided HOK with the opportunity to realign its BIM Execution Plan with a brand-new set of design technologies supporting big data, including A360 Collaboration for Revit cloud service, FormIt 360 software, Dynamo Studio software, Revizto, and Enscape. In the design world, it's not uncommon that key project data is stored in application silos and requires a great deal of manual coordination. Autodesk has taken the first steps for architecture, engineering, and construction projects to make data available to multiple applications at once-by introducing a connected workflow that shares data from schematic diagrams with a Revit project. The Revit P&ID Modeler breaks silos down by letting the user begin with P&ID schematics in AutoCAD Plant 3D software to create intelligent, data-rich diagrams. The schematic data is hosted in the A360 cloud-computing platform cloud and is referenced by Revit project models. The 3D model consisting of elements such as piping, equipment, and accessories is then developed using information defined in the schematic, such as pipe size, pipe type, valve type, and equipment IDs. As the model is developed and the schematic iterated, the user receives feedback to help ensure consistency and that design intent is maintained. This class will dig into Revit software with tips and tricks from the low-hanging fruit (symbols, text, and standards) and things to consider (metric, Imperial or soft metric, geographies, and so on). We'll look at using note block content for abbreviation lists and schedules, processing diagrams using custom families, and keynoting. We'll cover assemblies codes, what view templates are and how to use them effectively for consistency from templates forward, sample practices for view naming and browser management in anticipation of exports, and ways of managing work sets in local and linked files to help speed up your system by simply organizing data. We'll also look at how work sets track through links, schema for management, best practices on file sizes, and how to push those limits and possibly a few Dynamo Scripts to assist in management and setups of projects.

Prefabrication and automation in offsite construction requires building models to be rich in data. The generation of construction drawings, creation of a bill of materials and the application of fabricated information is required in the model. In wood construction for example, it requires modeling of accurate processing (precutting) and assembly of prefabricated items including tooling (e.g. nailing and milling operations). All this, including derived data in the form of CNC files, shop drawings, etc., needs to be accessible by all stakeholders - the builders, prefabricators and project managers. By combining Autodesk products and APIs, hsbcad has developed improved workflows to create and modify rich model content.
