Learn advanced skills capitalizing on the new Fabrication functionality in Revit 2017 software. Using Revit schedules, assemblies, tags, views, interference checking, and new features in Revit 2017 software, we can produce fabrication documentation inside of the Revit software interface, which enables us to be fully coordinated with design consultants. While Fabrication Parts was introduced in 2016, it was in Revit 2017 software that they became fully functional while remaining in a single interface. We’ll cover how to model using Fabrication Parts; how to convert the design model into Fabrication Parts; how to use assembly views to create spools sheets and details; how to annotate Fabrication Parts in plan view and 3D; how to coordinate with other consultants in Revit software; how new Revit 2017 software features relate to Fabrication Parts; and how to import existing as-built conditions from Fabrication CADmep software into a new renovation project. The BIM 360 products provide project teams with a range of options for project collaboration that differ from the traditional ways of conducting business and can intimidate new users. This class will focus on the development and advantages of a collaborative learning exercise between industry partners and academic institutions, with the goal of exposing students to real-world collaborative experiences they will face as they begin their careers in the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner-operated (AECO) industry. Learn how industry partners have the opportunity to push the boundaries of their BIM 360 utilization in a no-risk environment, while affording new employees valuable experience. Academics Nathan Blinn and Dr. Raymond Issa-with David Epps, director of construction technology for Winter Construction-will share their experiences with BIM 360 software, while providing a customizable blueprint for the development of your own BIM 360 learning exercise, complete with lessons learned and learning objectives.
This class will present the automated process used to perform structural assessments for water infrastructure projects. Historically, manned inspection was the means for data collection; for example, rappelling down a dam taking photos, notes, and sketches. In remote assessment process, high-definition images are collected with small drones combined with terrestrial LIDAR (light detection and ranging) scanning. Drones offer an ideal solution because often these facilities (such as dams) are isolated but have aerial visibility. The reality capture of the structure-instead of individual images-provides a useful tool for assessment. The collected data can be transformed into 3D models utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D software or Revit software-models which are also shareable with the remote team on the BIM 360 platform. The data can be used to monitor structure performance by taking several surveys over time. Use of a systematic approach for the survey improves the delivery quality and schedule. This tool empowers stakeholders to make informed decisions on critical structures.

Innovation and hackathons seem to be all the rage these days-they're all over the Internet as ways to transform your business. This industry talk will discuss how a stodgy Midwestern EPCM (engineering, procurement, and construction management) organization took the leap of faith with a first hackathon in 2014, going on to make the hackathon an annual event. Additionally, we'll review how we launched an innovation platform for every employee to participate in ideation, project definition, business development, and execution stages throughout the entire year, and how this program is now launching into regular hackathon sessions at each office in the organization. We will also discuss innovation tools and practices, including Adobe's Kickbox Canvas, Autodesk's LUMIAMI, and Wild/World analyzer.

Tired of waiting for the architect or the structural engineer to send you the last updated model so you can continue your work? The waiting time is over-and it's called Collaboration for Revit cloud service. This session will demonstrate how architects, engineers, and contractors have been using the cloud to communicate and collaborate in designing and currently building Norway's biggest shopping center. Using collaboration for Revit software, BIM 360 Team software, and the Forge platform to view 3D models, it has been possible to identify and solve problems more quickly than in a traditional design process. Workflows, tips, and tricks will be essential in this lecture.
When a progressive health-care client challenged an integrated project delivery team to look for opportunities to enhance collaboration and meet stringent deadlines on a new hospital project in California, the team started investigating several options to enhance coordination among the different teams' model files. After reviewing the available alternatives, and after careful consideration, the team finally selected Collaboration for Revit cloud service. Collaboration for Revit exceeded the expectations of the team members who were not only co-located at a trailer, but were also dispersed in several offices-including overseas. The team was able to work efficiently without restrictions on firewalls, which also enabled for unique workflows between the design and construction teams. In this class, we'll go over this success story while reviewing the key features of Collaboration for Revit, the selection process, setup, tips/tricks, and known limitations. Additionally, we'll look at how BIM 360 software and Collaboration for Revit were used to enhance change management.
Collaboration is the key to project success. Waste and inefficiency is expected in the transition of information from design team to trade partners. In this class, we'll share our experience of moving the fabrication drawings left into the design phase using a unified workflow on a traditional design-build project. With this workflow, we minimize the waste in transition and create a more efficient and leaner process. We'll identify the advantages of a unified workflow in the design phase and how it benefits the project team and the owner. We'll also review the process and software used to achieve this collaboration-we used Collaboration for Revit cloud service and BIM 360 Team software as the collaboration platform for the project, in conjunction with BIM 360 Glue software for coordination and design review during the construction document phase. We'll share our feedback and lessons learned, along with any tips and work-arounds to help with the use of Collaboration for Revit and BIM 360 Team and Fusion Team (formerly A360 Team) for interdisciplinary collaboration.
This class will showcase the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Marcus Tower expansion and the all-in virtual design involvement on this project. We'll explain how to utilize models and BIM Team/C4R for Revit's cloud-based products and services for multiple aspects of the project, including the involvement in preconstruction for marketing, estimating, and self-perform opportunities; the integration of drone flights and parametric, in-house crane models for site logistics and safety planning; virtual reality for headwall mock-ups; and structural review. We'll complete the discussion with lessons learned for workflow, full-team integration, and training for the all-in approach.

Coupled with traditional A/E Design, we are also in charge of developing and managing VDC workflows aimed at shortening the Schedule, reducing Cost, and optimizing Turn-over. We developed Enhanced Integration (EI), aiming to connect the entire Lifecycle.<br/><br/>In addition to managing VDC workflows, EI also includes Asset Data Management, targeting an IWMS (Integrated Workplace Management System) implementation. With more than 2,000 employees across all Mercy support departments using the unified platform, the projected operational savings are staggering.<br/><br/>EI has evolved over 3 years and 8 projects totaling more than $500 Million in Construction. This class will focus on best practices for delivering complex healthcare projects and showcase BIM360 Team and Collaboration for Revit as the main tools for connecting the entire Project Team.
Work sharing is commonly known by Revit users and is critical when it comes to collaborative design. Obviously, with collaboration comes communication. The more dispersed teams are, the more important efficient communication becomes. In this session, we'll discuss how the next-gen Revit work sharing can help teams to understand design changes, no matter where team members are. We'll not only look at how designers update their team members about changes, but also how these changes are communicated to external stakeholders in a controlled way and how we can visualize these design changes in 3D. Finally, we'll explain how you can collect feedback from non-Revit users, and how you can create deliverables using Dynamo software. The core of this process is BIM 360 software, which we'll also briefly discuss.
Following a 12-year planning period, HOK was commissioned with the design of the Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah, considered one of the largest aviation projects under construction in the United States. In 2017, the airport launched a new 740,000-square-foot concourse expansion to the ongoing project, bringing the total area to 2.3 million square feet, with a total construction cost to $2.8 billion. This provided HOK with the opportunity to realign its BIM Execution Plan with a brand-new set of design technologies supporting big data, including A360 Collaboration for Revit cloud service, FormIt 360 software, Dynamo Studio software, Revizto, and Enscape. Learn how HOK re-evaluated, strategized, and adopted new technologies to enhance the collaborative design process; and hear what hurdles and opportunities appear when the cloud is pushed to the limits by projects of colossal dimensions.
