Is your firm, office, or department Building Information Modeling (BIM) compliant? Good question! In this class, we will introduce and embrace the concept of BIM levels. Actually, without a structured method for managing projects, it’s difficult to enhance your BIM maturity. You’ll learn how to integrate BIM process within your organization. There will be a presentation of some standards, requirements, and protocols to set in order to reach BIM level 2, according to our vision of French users. To go further, we will outline full collaboration between all disciplines and Open BIM based on our experience. We will illustrate this class with some French case studies. This BIM-maturity analysis will cover the use of the following software systems: Revit software, Navisworks software, and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. This session features Revit and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Leila Essemrhouni is working in France as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project manager in the Innovation Digital Department of Artelia, an international multispecialist engineering firm. Her main focus is on participating in the implementation of BIM in Artelia markets (infrastructure, building, water, and so on) according to BIM maturity and BIM goals of each sector. Essemrhouni obtained 2 engineering degrees—one in the building construction field and the other in infrastructure and civil disciplines. She received also a master’s degree in general management from IAE. Before joining Artelia, she worked on 4D and 5D subjects within Bouygues Bâtiment, a market leader in building in the Paris region.
Yann THOMAS is working in France as a BIM Project Manager in the BIM department of Artelia Building and Industry. He obtained a civil engineering degree with a specialization in electricity. He begins his career as electrical study engineer (5 years). He worked on several project in Paris as an electrical engineer (Hospitality, football stadium, industrial building...). He was trained on Revit in 2010 and specialized on BIM in 2013 due to the BIM demand. He is now in charge of standardization of BIM methodology for Artelia Building and Industry and realize BIM Management Mission as client advisor or in design team.
Collaboration in construction is challenging. How can you organize the quality in data and geometry with all these different parties and models? Which software do you use to check your model: Navisworks or Solibri. An IFC workflow with Solibri provides you insights in the different clashes and the possibility to check in a rule based manner. But how do you create reports and collaborate with team members? Does Navisworks manage a more better workflow with more possibilities for everybody? With Navisworks you are free of file format. It is easy to append and update Revit, IFC, rcp or dwg files to a federated model in one single file. Checking model geometry, duplicates and data in a standardized way with Collaborea. It is the rulebased modelchecker for Naviswork. A report is no longer necessary because all the issues are visible and editable on a Cloud platform using Autodesk Forge. Checking and collaborating becomes easy and editing the models in an Autodesk workflow is simple.
When a progressive health-care client challenged an integrated project delivery team to look for opportunities to enhance collaboration and meet stringent deadlines on a new hospital project in California, the team started investigating several options to enhance coordination among the different teams' model files. After reviewing the available alternatives, and after careful consideration, the team finally selected Collaboration for Revit cloud service. Collaboration for Revit exceeded the expectations of the team members who were not only co-located at a trailer, but were also dispersed in several offices-including overseas. The team was able to work efficiently without restrictions on firewalls, which also enabled for unique workflows between the design and construction teams. In this class, we'll go over this success story while reviewing the key features of Collaboration for Revit, the selection process, setup, tips/tricks, and known limitations. Additionally, we'll look at how BIM 360 software and Collaboration for Revit were used to enhance change management.
As a group, we'll share ideas, workflows, and techniques to help make for a smoother and less painful transition from AutoCAD software to Revit software so that others may benefit from our successes and failures. You may have heard that the only way to switch to using Revit is to just take the plunge. Well, maybe there are options to this "sink or swim" approach. Can you afford to retrain your entire staff? Do you know who should learn (or, more important, who should not learn) Revit software? Maybe this discussion will help answer some of your questions and address some of your fears. We'll share how switching to Revit has affected our offices, workflows, staffing, and efficiency. We'll discuss our biggest successes and failures. We want to hear any unique idea or workflow that you've discovered to help make for a successful transition to Revit.
How can Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows reduce the disconnect between document production and design intent visualization? This discussion will focus on taking a Revit BIM model into visualization and the production effort required. We'll cover a variety of visual communication platforms, from still images to panoramic images to interactive, dynamic virtual reality (VR). This roundtable will cover methods of accurate BIM visualization as well as isolated visual efforts with respect to production time and quality.
Learn advanced skills that capitalize on the new Fabrication functionality in Revit 2018 software. Using Revit schedules, assemblies, tags, views, interference checking, and new features in Revit 2018, we can produce fabrication documentation inside the Revit software interface, which lets us fully coordinate with design consultants. We'll cover how to model using Fabrication Parts; how to convert a design model into Fabrication Parts; how to use assembly views to create spools sheets and details; how to annotate Fabrication Parts in plan view and 3D; how to coordinate with other consultants in Revit software; how new Revit 2018 features relate to Fabrication Parts; and how to import existing as-built conditions from Fabrication CADmep software into a new renovation project. This session will feature Revit and Fabrication CADmep.
In this class, we will share our experience with the rollout and increased adoption of BIM 360 Docs software within Arcadis globally. The Pilot to Enterprise program is a successful approach to developing a well-structured, flexible project foundation for all project type rollouts within BIM 360 Docs. These are Arcadis's "lighthouse" projects, and Autodesk will support Arcadis on project execution. The intention is to glean the lessons learned for a global implementation across Arcadis, and drive toward a common data environment. The Autodesk Train the Trainer program is aimed at identifying and training regional BIM 360 Docs Implementation Champions and other key users based on the guidance of the Arcadis program managers. Together with the strategy "From 12 to Many," it will touch virtually every component of our collaborative process with input and support from Autodesk Implementation Consultants in The Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.
