This class will demonstrate how you can use Revit software for landscape architecture with some assistance from Dynamo extension. Attendees will get an overview of how to use Revit software features such as families to provide typical symbols in plan while providing opportunities for visualization, scheduling to provide quantities, and tagging to annotate consistent information. William Carney is the Building Information Modeling (BIM) director at BSA LifeStructures where he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s use and implementation of design technologies and all things BIM. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in architectural studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and his master’s degree in architecture from the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego while working at Childs Mascari Warner Architects. Carney has been using Revit software since 2004 on all aspects of architecture, from design and visualization to documentation and asset management in healthcare, government, and educational facilities, as well as retail, commercial, and casino projects.
Learn how to take existing project information and capitalize on Autodesk, Inc., platforms; ReCap 360 Pro software; Remake software; Revit software; and Maya software—all to create and aggregate models and present information in an immersive virtual-reality setting to derive value for the overall project. The case study we’ll look at is a historically significant, high-visibility project that needed various reality-capture methods to mitigate possible risk and liability during construction. The team was able to use these requirements to drive drone flights, photogrammetric models, and laser scans. These were used to enrich the design models and create an environment to run scenarios for logistics and feasibility studies. The downstream effect will help the owner better understand the complexity and manage understanding of changes as they occur. Join us for a guided tour of how Black & Veatch is exploring the potential impact of virtual-reality (VR) job sites on the future of design and construction. What's a VR job site, you ask? It is a virtual version of the actual job site, including cranes and temporary works. This virtual version can take many forms, ranging from 3D meshes to spherical photography. The idea is to create and use VR job sites for planning, safety, and historical purposes because VR eliminates assumptions and risk by capturing and portraying the actual job-site conditions, not just modeled conditions. Additionally—and most fun of all—you can immerse yourself in a VR job site or future design using first-person VR. Together we will explore real examples—proofs of concepts and ideas from infrastructure projects—including power plants and water projects. What if we—Autodesk, Inc.—would use our own technologies for our own needs? In this class we will show you how we applied interesting workflows involving the following software: ReCap software, Revit software, BIM 360 Glue software, BIM 360 Layout software, and Point Layout to retrofit the Autodesk Paris office. After having generated a 3D model in Revit software based on point clouds reflecting existing conditions that we got from 3D scans, we made a retrofit proposal and used BIM 360 Layout software to stake out data into the field with a robotic total station. You will learn how to simply open up the corresponding analytical model directly in Structural Bridge Design software for further refinement and to carry out more-detailed analysis and design checks. You will learn how to open up the InfraWorks 360 model in AutoCAD Civil 3D software to carry out further refinements to the site and create alignment drawings that include the bridges. Maybe you know the power of Revit software’s Family Editor but you’ve avoided it or it has intimidated you until now. Wait no more. This session will introduce you to the basics of Family Editor. Once you get past being intimidated, you will find that while Family Editor is extremely powerful, it can actually be great fun. In this short introduction to Family Editor, we will create a Revit component family complete with constraints and parameters. Don’t worry if you don’t know what a constraint or parameter is—we’ll cover that too. Whether you’ve never worked in Revit software before, or you’ve used Revit software for a while but you’ve simply avoided Family Editor, this class will teach you the basics of the family editor in a simple step-by-step fashion.
