This class will explore the implementation of an efficient workflow for 3D scanning of large plants. From laser scanning at the field until a point cloud, which can be combined with a 2D layout and 3D models, our scan projects count regularly more than 100 scans. After the scans are taken, the scans are removed from noise and then divided in layers according to the flow sheet. The buildings are also on a separate layer and divided into roof, walls, and floor. These scans are then combined in Navisworks software with a 3D model of a new line generated at our company. The 3D models are made with Inventor software. A 2D layout, which we receive from the customer, is also attached. This workflow has been improved on a lot since the start, and this is what we want to teach in this class. Recently we purchased a drone to capture photos at places that are not reachable for our scanner (for example, ducting on a roof). A 3D point cloud can then be derived from those photos and combined with the laser scan point cloud This session features ReCap, Inventor Professional, and Navisworks Manage.

This class will help you to explore preliminary bridge design options by using Bridge Design for InfraWorks 360 software to visualize realistic civil structures in the context of the surrounding proposed site. Then Structural Bridge Design software is used to analyze the bridge in the cloud. We run a line girder analysis to verify the structural strength of the bridge girders and ensure they meet design standard requirements. Next, we take the design into Navisworks software to uncover design problems and constructability issues more effectively and plan the construction sequencing. The InfraWorks 360 model is taken into AutoCAD Civil 3D software for precise grading. Then we round-trip the model back into InfraWorks 360 for better design communication. This class covers the implementation of an integrated BIM system inside the Design and Construction Joint Venture (VCGP + ASTALDI) of the Santiago de Chile Airport. On this project, BIM data life cycle starts with model authoring creation using Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D for 354.000 m2 on buildings and 880.000 m2 on infrastructures. Design Review and Constructability Analysis are performed with the support of Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Recap, Infraworks, Navisworks and Tekla Structure. Throughout the project, BIM collaboration and coordination are ensured with Autodesk Navisworks. Connection of BIM models with construction planning (Primavera) is done via Synchro software for 4D simulation. At the end of the project, As Built BIM models (LOD 500) are handed over for O&M software (IBM Maximo) link purposes. A particular attention will be brought to the challenges of implementing such process on a large scale project as well as best practices for BIM deliverables to final clients.

Our class focuses on LA Metro’s current transit project located in downtown LA. On the Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project (RCTC) we were able to integrate software from Autodesk (Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, BIM 360 Glue), and a variety of other platforms. In this presentation we will share some of the “secrets” on bringing these programs together with efficient and manageable workflows. RCTC is a 1.55 billion underground Light Rail Transit extension that connects Metro’s existing Gold Line Little Tokyo/Arts District Station to its 7th Street/Metro Center Station in downtown LA. This connection will serve as a major link to the current and future LA transit system. We will show why BIM was the right choice for final design of the project, and we will demonstrate our workflows between Revit and Civil 3D, Revit and AutoSprink, how we used Navisworks for clash detection, BIM360 Glue and BIM 360 Field for model viewing.
