This class will help you to explore preliminary bridge design options by using Bridge Design for InfraWorks 360 software to visualize realistic civil structures in the context of the surrounding proposed site. Then Structural Bridge Design software is used to analyze the bridge in the cloud. We run a line girder analysis to verify the structural strength of the bridge girders and ensure they meet design standard requirements. Next, we take the design into Navisworks software to uncover design problems and constructability issues more effectively and plan the construction sequencing. The InfraWorks 360 model is taken into AutoCAD Civil 3D software for precise grading. Then we round-trip the model back into InfraWorks 360 for better design communication. This session features InfraWorks 360, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Navisworks Manage.
DOT Engineers, Designers and BIM managers who are interested in seeing a better ROI on their software investment.
Michelle Rasmussen has been using AutoCAD since release 9. Starting out in the Civil Engineering Unit of the U.S. Air Force, she has used Softdesk, Land Desktop, Civil 3D, and InfraWorks on infrastructure projects for more than 20 years. She has worked for both consulting engineering firms and municipalities laying out subdivisions, designing roadways, and managing infrastructure projects. Her extensive experience also includes writing training guides and instructing users how to use the Autodesk Infrastructure software product line. As a Senior Instructional Designer at ASCENT, Michelle currently writes courseware for AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D, Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite and Autodesk InfraWorks. The training guides she writes are used by Instructors, students, schools and ATC’s in over 67 countries.

How can 120 diverse stakeholders shape the design of a complex infrastructure project and gain community consent and agency approval—all in record time? Using InfraWorks 360 software as a collaboration tool, the owners, engineers, environmentalists, historians, regulators, news agencies, and local townspeople all worked together to affect design changes in a democratized and efficient working relationship. Using InfraWorks 360 software, we overcame the obstacles that typically plague rail projects, such as connecting villages and towns, crossing bridges and tunnels, using and repurposing existing corridors, and establishing new alignments. This was done using the ability to rapidly view, navigate, query, and create design alternatives in a real-world context. The project model provided a single source of truth for both technical and nontechnical review, assessment, and “what if” proposals. See the amazing results of this stakeholder-designed and stakeholder-approved project through their eyes. This session features InfraWorks 360, 3ds Max, and AutoCAD Civil 3D. AIA Approved
Point clouds are a very important component in current infrastructure projects, and it is vital to know how to handle them for successful project execution. This class will provide all the necessary information to import, process, and extract information from point cloud data in Autodesk, Inc., architecture, engineering, and construction products. More specifically, this class will teach surface/terrain generation from high-resolution point cloud data in InfraWorks software and demonstrate how to use it in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The class will also cover how to model city asset features to create a virtual city model, and how to bring those city assets into a design product (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D software) as COGO points. This class does not have any prerequisite. Any knowledge of InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and point clouds will be helpful in understanding the class material. At the end of this class, attendees will be able to use point cloud data with ease and confidence for their modeling and design projects. This session features InfraWorks 360, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ReCap 360.
InfraWorks 360 software has tremendous potential for planners and architects. In this era of big open data and the integration of the Internet of Things with the built environment, municipal governments must find new ways to use this growing wealth of information to improve civic engagement, promote economic development and entrepreneurship, and make data-driven decisions. From this perspective, InfraWorks 360 software can not only create a unified platform for all of this data, but also visualize it in 3D, combining all your Revit (RVT) files into a single model, rendering in real time, and running various analyses. This class will use real-world examples to look at all of the features around district planning, transportation infrastructure projects, and airports. We will also walk through how to create and test the impact of various design scenarios and then share those with project stakeholders. Note that we will not be doing any roadway or bridge design in this session. This session features InfraWorks 360 and 3ds Max. AIA Approved
This panel will discuss the achievements and challenges of the successful Intercity rail project in Norway. The panel will include Building Information Modeling (BIM) experts from the fields of design, construction, and government who will all share their perspectives on this highly collaborative, fast-paced project. Intercity is a 250-plus km rail project with both new and existing right of ways passing through dozens of municipalities and multiple other jurisdictions. In each jurisdiction, there are different stakeholders and variable legal considerations for cultural, historic, environmental, social, and esthetic standards, all of which were addressed via InfraWorks 360 software representations. The project has been split into sections, each being designed by a different company or partnership, so collaboration between sections and the Rail administration has been key to their success. This session features InfraWorks 360. AIA Approved
Intended for intermediate to advanced users of InfraWorks 360 software and AutoCAD Civil 3D software, this class is designed to show the civil industry professionals techniques for creating renderings and depicting custom models utilizing multiple Autodesk, Inc., tools. Using tools provided in Infrastructure Design Suite civil engineering software (AutoCAD Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, Revit software, and 3ds Max software), this class will consist of a live demo showing how to create and use grading, site geometry, and custom Filmbox (FBX) models that you can use in your InfraWorks models. This session features InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Raster Design. AIA Approved
In this class, we will guide you through the software use and setup process of an actual project: the construction of Highway A1 in The Netherlands. After a contract and project overview, we will dive into the process that makes this project succeed as a true Building Information Modeling (BIM) project. Learn where to start, what to do, and what to avoid to have your own success. Find out how to enable designers to use their favorite program, and then bring the intelligent model together in Navisworks software for your contract management. Discover which export is used for stakeholder management. Then we will focus on what the implementation of InfraWorks software means for these types of projects. Learn how InfraWorks software can help support a large-scale project with lean sessions, value management, and weekly stands. Combine geographic information system data with design data that together lead to better and easier decision making. This session features InfraWorks 360, A360 Team, and Navisworks Manage. This class will show you how InfraWorks 360 software is used as a design tool rather than just a visualization tool. Multiple examples will demonstrate how InfraWorks 360 software is used as a unique design tool in real-life projects on all kinds of unimaginable areas, such as telecommunications, architecture, mining, oil pipe layout, geographic information systems, and port engineering—clearly thinking outside of the box! This session features InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Starting in InfraWorks 360 software, we will create paths using InfraWorks 360 road tools, specifically design and component roads. We will then use AutoCAD Civil 3D software to convert imported InfraWorks 360 alignment(s) to Feature Lines, and create individual paths for vehicle movement: a single center-line path, merging lanes, and a bus turnout. In 3ds Max software we will use the Civil View extension to assign vehicles to imported paths, set speed, direction, vehicle type, starts, stops, and so on. Back in InfraWorks 360 software, we will import and configure the animation file(s), account for transformation shift on import, and watch as our vehicles “drive” the model. The round-trip of data will flow like this: InfraWorks 360 to AutoCAD Civil 3D to 3ds Max plus Civil View back to InfraWorks 360. This session features InfraWorks 360, 3ds Max, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
