Andrew Manze has worked in the civil and structural engineering industry for over 30 years, functioning both in industry and in the specialist construction software sector. After training as a structural engineer in the United Kingdom in the late 1980s and working on a variety of unusual and novel international projects, Manze focused on supporting customers with a local structural engineering software firm. Manze then moved on to business development in the 3D modeling and structural-analysis software market, and he also spent many years bringing advanced structural-fabrication technology to the European and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) regions. In later years, Manze concentrated on the bridge analysis and design market, getting involved with the rollout of the eurocodes within engineering consultants in Europe, before joining Autodesk, Inc., in 2013 to support bridge technology in InfraWorks 360 software.

This session will show you how we use InfraWorks 360 throughout the whole lifecycle of our projects (predominantly Smart Motorways) using a range of various products we have at our disposal to create a full Infrastructure visualisation model, by including everything from the white lining, to 3D traffic signs, to moving cars in a quick and efficient manner. The workflows have been developed over a number of years using various Autodesk and non-Autodesk software applications. The initial workflows show how we take drawings consisting of just 3D polylines and turn them into glorious visualisation models. We will then investigate the workflows for bringing in our completed AutoCAD Civil 3D corridors into InfraWorks 360, including schemes designed at local grid. The class will round off by investigating the programs and workflows used to add the white lining, the roadside features, landscaping, and the vehicles, using scripts to achieve this.

How can 120 diverse stakeholders shape the design of a complex infrastructure project and gain community consent and agency approval—all in record time? Using InfraWorks 360 software as a collaboration tool, the owners, engineers, environmentalists, historians, regulators, news agencies, and local townspeople all worked together to affect design changes in a democratized and efficient working relationship. Using InfraWorks 360 software, we overcame the obstacles that typically plague rail projects, such as connecting villages and towns, crossing bridges and tunnels, using and repurposing existing corridors, and establishing new alignments. This was done using the ability to rapidly view, navigate, query, and create design alternatives in a real-world context. The project model provided a single source of truth for both technical and nontechnical review, assessment, and “what if” proposals. See the amazing results of this stakeholder-designed and stakeholder-approved project through their eyes. This session features InfraWorks 360, 3ds Max, and AutoCAD Civil 3D. AIA Approved
Point clouds are a very important component in current infrastructure projects, and it is vital to know how to handle them for successful project execution. This class will provide all the necessary information to import, process, and extract information from point cloud data in Autodesk, Inc., architecture, engineering, and construction products. More specifically, this class will teach surface/terrain generation from high-resolution point cloud data in InfraWorks software and demonstrate how to use it in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The class will also cover how to model city asset features to create a virtual city model, and how to bring those city assets into a design product (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D software) as COGO points. InfraWorks 360 software has tremendous potential for planners and architects. In this era of big open data and the integration of the Internet of Things with the built environment, municipal governments must find new ways to use this growing wealth of information to improve civic engagement, promote economic development and entrepreneurship, and make data-driven decisions. From this perspective, InfraWorks 360 software can not only create a unified platform for all of this data, but also visualize it in 3D, combining all your Revit (RVT) files into a single model, rendering in real time, and running various analyses. This class will use real-world examples to look at all of the features around district planning, transportation infrastructure projects, and airports. We will also walk through how to create and test the impact of various design scenarios and then share those with project stakeholders. Note that we will not be doing any roadway or bridge design in this session. This session features InfraWorks 360 and 3ds Max. AIA Approved
This panel will discuss the achievements and challenges of the successful Intercity rail project in Norway. The panel will include Building Information Modeling (BIM) experts from the fields of design, construction, and government who will all share their perspectives on this highly collaborative, fast-paced project. Intercity is a 250-plus km rail project with both new and existing right of ways passing through dozens of municipalities and multiple other jurisdictions. In each jurisdiction, there are different stakeholders and variable legal considerations for cultural, historic, environmental, social, and esthetic standards, all of which were addressed via InfraWorks 360 software representations. The project has been split into sections, each being designed by a different company or partnership, so collaboration between sections and the Rail administration has been key to their success.
