This lab will cover the interoperability workflows that enable teams to use the right tool for the phase of design and each team member’s expertise and skill sets, enabling their imagination to be the limit of their designs rather than the required toolsets. We will cover 2 different methods for importing geometry into Revit software as native content to produce drawings. With the first method, attendees will learn how to use FormIt 360 software to translate SketchUp models into native Revit content. In the second, attendees will be provided with and instructed on how to apply a premade, easy-to-use Dynamo script that will enable importing Rhino software-generated geometry into Revit native content. The techniques in this lab have been developed and tested on a range of project scales, from large transit projects to residential high-rises to small tenant improvement projects with overwhelming success and quantifiable increases in team productivity and efficiency. This is an advanced class for those already familiar with FormIt 360 mobile and web app and the user interface, tools, and basic workflows within the app. This session will focus more on the Windows App to utilize more resources. We will cover the advanced modeling techniques, analysis capabilities, pro features (such as session sharing and material creation), workflows to work with Revit software and Revit software families, and integration of Dynamo modeling scripts into FormIt 360. The class will focus heavily on workflow and getting the most out of a FormIt 360 Pro subscription, so your models are layered with Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related information earlier in your design process. This class will not cover the basics of FormIt 360, so if you’re unfamiliar with how to create model content in FormIt 360, it would be better to take a different course. In this session, you will learn the basics of the FormIt 360 software user interface and explore the export-import functionality. We will review source file types and locations for urban planning exercises across major cities such as New York; Los Angeles; Washington, DC; and Boston. Then we’ll explore the possibilities of importing files into Revit software using FormIt 360 software’s native Revit file translation process. In the class, you'll learn how to use your FormIt 360 data for high-end presentations in the product and with other software from Autodesk, Inc. We will cover several exporting file formats (including FBX, OBJ, and DAE) and demonstrate how these work best with other applications such as InfraWorks software and 3ds Max software. You will learn best practices for working with materials, lighting, and cameras across each software platform, and we will review different rendering engines for stills versus animations. FormIt 360 software is a fairly new player to the Autodesk, Inc., field. FormIt 360 is a powerful design-visualization and simulation software that parties nicely with Revit software. Its mobile application and cloud storage make it easy for users to modify designs, whether they’re in the office or on the go. In this session, we will show you how to develop and use a FormIt 360 model for analysis. We will discover how FormIt 360 building models interact with Revit software and its materials. In architecture, technology and computers provide ways for us to produce and share design documentation. Until now, the profession has divided our work processes into a discovery phase with hand sketching and a production phase where the sketches are developed into computer-aided illustrations. Architectural design is currently experiencing a shift wherein there is an integration of hand sketching and technology into a single process. This course will demonstrate the ways in which computers can help us sketch and iterate our ideas, and how we can redefine sketching to include all drawing, direct modeling, and computational studies. “When I say artist I mean the man who is building things—creating molding the earth—whether it be the plains of the west—or the iron ore of Penn.
