Rusty Belcher is a manufacturing application expert working with IMAGINiT Technologies. Belcher provides implementation, training, and support services at every level for all Autodesk, Inc., manufacturing products. His specialty involves the integration of 3D design practices into manufacturing production environments. He is an instructor and mentor, and IMAGINiT regularly receives outstanding reviews of his impact to their organization. Belcher started his career as a structural steel fitter at Newport News Shipbuilding. He is a graduate of the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, and he worked in the shipyard's Mold Loft Engineering Division. Over the past several years Belcher has worked directly with Autodesk to develop and author the current Factory Design Suite software training courseware, and he has also developed and recorded many of the tips and tutorial videos available on the Factory Design Suite software’s YouTube channel.

Autodesk Factory Design Utilities is an integrated layout and optimisation solution built specifically to help you design and communicate the most efficient layout by creating a digital model of your factory or other types of layout. Factory Design Utilities is part of the Autodesk Product Design Collection and includes tools for optimising 2D layouts, integrating 2D layout data with 3D models and facility components and creating 3D layout models with bidirectional 2D/3D associativity.
Maintaining an accurate facility layout can a big challenge. The drawings are normally out of date, and it can be a time-consuming task to get the measurements and update the drawings. All of these tasks are typically low-priority activities for most companies. Capturing the reality of your facility will demonstrate a workflow for going from scans of a facility to a 3D model. The class will demonstrate how you can use ReCap software to generate a point cloud of the scan data. Then we'll use point cloud utilities in AutoCAD software to generate sections of the point cloud. Finally, we'll use Factory Design Utilities software in Inventor software to locate equipment in the facility.
In this session, we'll cover a complete workflow based solely on Autodesk technology, from process planning to 2D-3D layout and 4D timeline management. Then we'll bring you into the virtual factory experience, meaning that you can experience the factory as if it was built already. This class will examine the entire workflow of Factory Design Suite, and show you the use of different software systems that are installed on your machine. You will learn how to use the Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform to quickly get the 2D layout data from the sales engineer at a client site and then provide him with a completed 3D layout with Factory Design Suite (which is in sync with the 2D layout). We will discuss in detail how Revit software interoperability enables the factory buildings to be used in Inventor software for flawless completion of factory layouts from concept to completion. Finally, we will explore Augmented Reality to discover how planners and engineers are using it to visualize and review virtual factories.
