Qatar Rail is in the process of constructing a state-of-the art railway system valued at more than USD$40 billion and comprising of a 37-station metro and a 38-station light rail transit to support Qatar's 2030 Vision. One of the key decisions made at the start of the project involved a comprehensive contractual Building Information Modeling (BIM) mandate. The BIM process is currently being used extensively by all contractors in the design and construction phases of the project, and will soon be used as the foundation for the maintenance management system and throughout the eventual operations and maintenance of the railway. Sandra’s current responsibilities at Qatar Rail comprise a wide range.
It reaches from the coordination of custom-tailored Qatar Rail BIM standards development and their establishment over the enforcement of BIM documentations, the modeling of QA/QC and workflow processes until the review & approval of all BIM related documentations submitted by the numerous D&B contractors. Furthermore she manages the Qatar Rail BIM staff, overlooks their training needs and the respective organization and she acts as the primary point of contact with technology vendors and associated BIM consultants for Qatar Rail.
Her professionality and expertise is based on 26 years practicing CAD and BIM in the international construction industry, both for urban planning & infrastructure and for building construction with a broad spectrum of projects, like international airports, high rise commercial buildings, government complexes etc.
Sandra also held a leadership role in the promotion and implementation of 3D Design and BIM in her previous company. She was responsible for the development and establishment of BIM standards in close collaboration with institutes of technology, specialized in BIM processes, like HTWG Konstanz.
Her strong background in drafting and 3D modeling, her excellent coordination skills with stakeholders, a profound practical experience with CAD and BIM tools, an extensive knowledge of work flows & process flows are some of her additional assets.
