Timothy Prestero is the founder and CEO of Design that Matters (DtM), a no-nonsense, award-winning nonprofit in a Salem, Massachusetts. DtM collaborates with the world's best social entrepreneurs and hundreds of superstar volunteers to design breakthrough medical devices for the poor in developing countries. DtM's Firefly infant phototherapy device is treating thousands of newborns in 21 counties, including Vietnam, Myanmar, Ghana and Haiti. In 2012, DtM was named the winner of the National Design Award. Tim holds graduate mechanical and ocean engineering degrees from MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and on the weekends he can be found fishing air rockets out of tree branches with his two boys.
