The presentation will look at how certain data doesn’t flow across the platforms, and we’ll demonstrate alternative work-arounds you can undertake to overcome this. The presentation will look at how to set up your Revit project with the mindset that the models will be used on iPads in BIM 360 Field software, and then we’ll look at how the data will transfer across into the Building Ops application. We will also address which application the data is generated in and we’ll look at examples of who populates this information. Brett Naylor has been working for over 18 years within the design and construction industry. With a background in architecture, he has been part of multidisciplinary teams delivering capital projects across aviation, rail, commercial, education, and industrial sectors. Latterly in his career, Naylor worked in the United Kingdom for a Building Information Modeling (BIM) consultancy engaging with facility owners and operators, design consultancies, and contractors to help them understand the benefits that BIM can bring to all stages of a project and how to best negotiate the transition to this new project-delivery method. Naylor joined Beca Group Limited—one of the largest employee-owned Asia Pacific engineering consultancies—2 years ago to lead the implementation of BIM across the business. During the delivery of School Bundle 4, BAM executed this aspect of work through BIM 360 Field software and BIM 360 Glue software. The right people captured all relevant asset information on mobile devices at the right time. Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) was used throughout this process as a way of creating clean, compliant, and standardized data. The COBie data set was progressively enhanced throughout the construction delivery phase. This data set is associated with Building Information Modeling (BIM) objects, and coupled with all other data capture, through BIM 360 Field software, it meant that BAM had a complete data set at project completion stage. BAM facilities management (FM) provided clear guidance as to their asset information needs and ensured no time was wasted in the production of irrelevant asset information. The link formed between Building Ops software and BIM 360 Field software is bi-directional and seamless. The now fully developed asset information model (AIM) is central to the Building Ops software Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system. An increase of technology and mobile devices on construction projects means we collect more data than ever. Clients are asking for access to this data as part of our turnover package in electronic format. Traditionally, our projects have not been set up at the beginning to facilitate this transfer of data. Simple things like Locations and Asset IDs are not in the contract documents until the end of the project. Also, owners don’t know what they want or need. This class will follow a case-study format of a completed project started before the client had purchased Building Ops software. It will follow the process to set up BIM 360 Field software to build and utilize the Equipment matrix, and we’ll cover how the initial assumptions and decisions that were made affected the turnover process. We will discuss our lessons learned and give time to focus attention on early to limit rework and reorganization of data to meet the turnover needs.
