This class will be delivered by Hill Construction, a U.K.-based housebuilder, supported by Topcon Corporation and Autodesk, Inc. Hill Construction will describe its Building Information Modeling (BIM) journey so far, and how the firm has applied BIM 360 tools into its workflows on a complex construction project undertaken by Hill Bespoke in Cambridge, England. The class will cover how using a variety of mass-data capture techniques to gather as-built documentation combined with integrated on-site verification and management has improved efficiencies and reduced errors using innovative new workflows. Hill will describe the impact of these new workflows incorporating software (including BIM 360 Field cloud service, BIM 360 Layout cloud service, BIM 360 Glue cloud service, and BIM 360 Docs cloud service) integrated with Topcon mass-data capture and layout solutions, and the efficiencies gained over traditional methods. John Foster is responsible for Topcon Corporation’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategy in Europe, including their strategic partnership with Autodesk, Inc. Foster was responsible for developing the Topcon BIM Innovation program, driving BIM-integrated processes into a number of Tier 1 construction contractors in Europe. Foster joined Topcon from Finnish Autodesk partner and BIM software provider Profox Companies Oy, where he was director responsible for business development and sales of Autodesk-based BIM software solutions. Previously he was sales manager at NavisWorks Ltd., where he managed the Plant Solutions sales channel. Foster has over 20 years’ experience in CAD and data management, ranging from software development through consulting to business development and sales.
This class will cover how to create concrete lift drawings in Revit software. We'll cover the people who need to be engaged, the processes from developing an estimate to providing field-layout data, and the final product of quality lift drawings that add value for the entire project team. You will learn how the concrete Revit model can become the hub for the whole concrete team and second-tier subs, and also you'll learn how to greatly enhance communication with the design team and the general contractor. This class will discuss the technical aspects of creating and maintaining a construction-level concrete model, including families, parts, and the use of pour sequence parameters. We'll demonstrate what information is important to concrete field crews, and how to effectively communicate that through Revit software-based lift drawings. You will also learn how to use geometry in Revit to create point data, and then how to use that point data downstream in the layout process.
Learn how to best adopt Autodesk's Point Layout plug-in for Revit software, AutoCAD software, and BIM 360 software. Hear about a general contractor's lessons learned from using the software and difficulties that arise out in the field-from working with civil engineer's files to working with several different robotic total stations on one site. Attendees will learn how to create a proper workflow using naming and numbering standards set forth by the field, and how to ensure a streamlined approach for importing and exporting points to their robotic total stations. We'll explore how to work with real-world coordinates as well as create our own, and we'll look at the best way to track the coordinate system across a project's lifecycle. This class will focus on how to use today's architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) BIM software in your field operations with BIM coordination, virtual design and construction (VDC) processes, field layout, and creation of as-builts. We'll focus on some advanced techniques and best practices in Revit software in order to help facilitate an easier BIM coordination process using Navisworks Manage software. We also look into how Point Layout, Total Stations, and related tools have revolutionized how trade subcontractors optimize their processes and facilitate prefabrication and installation. We'll also cover the current developments in Revit software's latest fabrication capabilities and how it is supplanting the traditional AutoCAD market share.

This session will present the new DeWalt Corporation Hanger Design plug-in for Revit software, which automates the placement and design of hangers and trapeze assemblies for common MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems, such as pipe, duct, conduit, and cable trays. The placement of these assemblies has historically been based on “rule of thumb” sizing and spacing and/or prescriptive rules from various trade-specific handbooks that do not necessarily comply with current building-code requirements or structural point-load limitations. Modeling MEP systems in Revit software offers many advantages for coordination, prefabrication, consolidation of parallel runs, and placement of cast-in-place hanger inserts. This new tool analyzes these systems, and automatically places hanger/trapeze assemblies, anchors, and seismic bracing per building-code requirements with engineering calculation reports automatically generated. The Meisi Lake City Island is the world’s largest twin-helix steel structure. It is very difficult to install elements onto the site precisely with traditional methods. Working with BIM 360 Glue software and Point Layout software, users can generate the set points from Building Information Modeling (BIM) models directly, laying out the data with the total station automatically. The class will show the best practice to set the points to space elements, and run the site survey with a standards procedure. We’ll also show how to get the site position with a total station, and compare the installation results with original BIM model for quality audit. The economic and social value is to eliminate deviation of manual centering, and improve mapping precision; decrease quantity of surveyors with automatic robot, improve mapping efficiency, and shorten working period; and reduce surveying works at high altitudes, and thereby improve safety management.
