If you’re an architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professional, have you worked on projects where the owners requested Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) as deliverable but you were puzzled what to include in the model or COBie file? Have you had the experience that you had to rename or add model properties to prepare it for handover when the construction was almost over? If you’re an owner, have you been in the situation where you had a perfect Revit software or Navisworks software model but you couldn’t feed the data into your facilities management applications? Or you asked for a COBie deliverable, but your maintenance staff didn’t find it useful? This session will help you discover how to minimize these common issues in relation to BIM data handover by providing practical guidance in regards to defining a more effective workflow and capitalizing on Autodesk, Inc., technologies to support the workflow and generate superior deliverables meeting various requirements. Sheryl Yang

Sheryl Yang is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) expert and advocate with both construction and facilities management (FM) backgrounds and more than 5 years of experience working on research and implementation of BIM for the architecture, engineering, and construction and FM industries. She is now an implementation consultant at Autodesk, Inc., focusing on providing consulting and training services for the adoption and development of BIM 360 Solutions and BIM practices. Yang also helps Autodesk clients to integrate the BIM 360 platform and data with their existing construction or FM applications. Prior to joining Autodesk, Yang worked as a researcher and received her doctoral degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on BIM for owners—more specifically, on developing a new approach using BIM and visualization technologies to streamline facility maintenance workflows.
