KaDe King is a senior technical specialist for U.S. CAD, and provides training, network licensing services, mentoring, and migration services. She has been using AutoCAD software since 1987, and has been a trainer since 1993. King is an AutoCAD Certified Professional and an Autodesk Certified Instructor. She has been the recipient of the Autodesk Instructor Quality Award twice, and has presented at Autodesk University for several years. Her experience is widely varied and includes real-world application of AutoCAD software in the architecture, engineering, construction, mapping, civil, and manufacturing industries. She enjoys teaching, and she specializes in relating to the class participants and helping them to get the most out of the training course, whatever it may be.

This class will cover the workflows and processes for integrating AutoCAD Map 3D software with PAVER pavement maintenance management system. We will examine the various issues involved in managing the spatial components of branches, sections, and test locations that are evaluated in PAVER and visualized in AutoCAD Map 3D software. We will showcase the use of Industry Model within AutoCAD Map 3D software as a repository for managing these pavement features. Within AutoCAD software, we will show how to use custom topology tools to validate and fix errors in the pavement geometry. And we will demonstrate how, using display maps and map layers, we can symbolize Pavement Condition Indices (PCI) and other conditions evaluated in PAVER to present pavement structures in a map layout for printing. At some point, it may have become necessary to move on to a more powerful platform such as SQL Server or Oracle. Now moving to a cloud-based database such as Microsoft Azure SQL database is easy enough to demonstrate the entire process from beginning to end in a 90-minute class. Many organizations do not have standard methods of deploying AutoCAD software, and consequently spend a significant amount of time and energy trying to make sure all users are configured to company standards. Even organizations that do have some standard methodologies in place should review their practices in an effort to improve. Often engineers and designers are asked to provide preliminary designs for roadways, utilities, and infrastructure with minimal existing data. An advantage of using AutoCAD Civil 3D software for preliminary design is its ability to access and use data available through geographic information system (GIS). Before ground survey is available, you can retrieve surface data, political boundaries, roadways, and water feature information directly from GIS and reference it in to AutoCAD Civil 3D software. With the preliminary design complete, move straight into production once the ground survey and other data becomes available by swapping out the GIS data and using the design information generated in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Complete the "round trip" by exporting design and record data from AutoCAD Civil 3D software back to GIS, making it available for the next project.
