Key Learning

Key Learning

  • Learn which modeling tasks are done in AutoCAD Civil 3D, which are done in Revit, and which are done in InfraWorks 360—for each stage of the project
  • See how geologic strata are defined and used for excavation and quantities tasks
  • Learn the Revit network for tunnel design (learn how to export to a third party for structural analysis)
  • Learn how shared coordinates work between Revit and geospatial applications

Description

Description

In this class, we will use the Grand Paris Express project linking the suburbs of Paris by metro to showcase the workflows that enable project success. We will demonstrate solutions for the unique requirements of Building Information Modeling (BIM)-ready tunnel projects from predesign to construction, including accurate existing conditions, reality capture, dynamic object systems, extended attribution, subsurface geology awareness, excavation phasing, interoperation with coordinate systems and sloped geometry, level of development (LOD) progression, structural steel and rock bolt layouts, and quantities surveys. Enterprise Priority Support has worked directly with some of the collaborating engineering firms on the Grand Paris to mentor the use of ReCap 360 software, InfraWorks 360 software, Revit software, and AutoCAD Civil 3D software in order to attain efficient and streamlined workflows across multiple software platforms and engineering disciplines, guaranteeing project success and models ready for BIM. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D, InfraWorks 360, and Revit Structure. AIA Approved

Lucy Kuhns

Lucy Kuhns is an experienced civil engineer, mechanical engineer, and land surveyor with expertise in design and build for infrastructure. She first joined Autodesk, Inc., in 2006 as a civil technical specialist, and is now an Autodesk premium support technical specialist working with enterprise customers to guide adoption and develop solutions for infrastructure-based projects and processes related to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and virtual design and construction. Kuhns’s career began as a mechanical engineer working on helicopters for Hughes Aircraft Company, off-road vehicles for Honda Motor Company, and bi-modal rail equipment for a startup in which she was a principal. Later she turned her focus to civil engineering and land surveying and was a principal in a professional practice in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. Believing that technology would set her company above the rest, she was an early adopter of CAD, GPS, high-accuracy geographic information system (GIS), and automation techniques both in the office and in the field, and Autodesk software was an important key to that success.
