This class is about creating a project environment that enables automatic creation and access to fully data-rich Navisworks software models from all 3D modeling software. We will discuss model structures, as well as synchronization of native files to cloud-based servers that enables the Building Information Modeling (BIM) data process to be automated and enable unlimited export customization of all types of software, reducing the work of BIM technicians. These processes include handling of spatial relationships between AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Revit software, and ProStructures plug-in, and all the automated steps required to take live native files at any point in time to fully prepared clean, data-rich Navisworks models using BIM flow technology. We will also discuss and demonstrate the importance of all project participants having access to these models with intuitive tools to access and filter models, and in doing so, creating full project awareness. We will then discuss how to move all of the above into a truly centralized review process using the Navisworks software platform.

He has worked primarily in the fields of heavy industry, oil and gas, and commercial projects around the world. Alan’s extensive experience encompasses project management, surveying, and construction, with a focus on development of integrated 3D systems within engineering and detail design. This class will take a transparent look at the purchase and use of Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC's, first laser scanner. We will explore the additional challenges as well as the metrics used to prove value. This class is geared toward those considering the purchase of, or who have just recently purchased, their first scanner or who want to learn more about the technology.
Laser scanning has gone from a niche tool for scientific research to one of the most inventive new technologies of the past 5 years. Its application on the built environment has yet to be fully formed, with use cases including as-builting existing conditions, quantifying terrain and material, documenting status and progress on a job, and improving quality on just about every aspect of the construction schedule. This presentation aims to go a step beyond the "what is laser scanning" discussion and focus on applicable-use cases on a wide variety of jobs, ranging from the high thousands to the low billions, from commercial office towers to high-end residences, and from first walking out onto a job site during earthwork to closing out a data center. This presentation means to inspire builders and architects to embrace the technological hardware out there now along with the vast suite of Autodesk, Inc., software to use point clouds and laser scans efficiently, effectively, and creatively.
This class will identify and prove the power of laser scan data, photogrammetry, and the resulting meshes and points in the design process. Using a live data set, industry professionals will demonstrate the simplicity, the flexibility, and the range of uses from a multidisciplinary point of view. They will then use scan data to redefine use of the phrase “as-built” for new building construction by introducing the concept of CPR (Construction Progress Recording) and how we can truly produce as-built Building Information Modeling (BIM) data sets for use in the real-world operation of buildings. They'll be talking about scanning hardware; Autodesk, Inc., software; data sources (laser and photographs); and the use of Autodesk cloud services to capture, process, and validate the data.
This class will cover an introduction of laser scanning, including time and cost of performing the scan; how to autoregister scans using ReCAP software; and the usage of the scan data for design assistant, construction quality control, and operation and maintenance. We will use educational, theme park, and airport projects as case studies to illustrate the benefits of using laser scanning.
This class will guide participants on how to plan for using large amounts of point cloud data across multiple offices quickly and efficiently. The key planning aspects we will cover will be how to handle all sizes of laser scanning projects and how to define an accurate scope when doing a scanning request for proposal (RFP). The project examples for this class will highlight how 500 GB-plus of point cloud data with staff members in 7 offices across the United States and an office in India was set up to decrease wide-area network latency and also improve workstation performance. Software workflows will show how laser scans were set up, including existing conditions model, demonstration drawings creation, and new design coordination with existing point clouds. The software discussed in this class will focus on ReCap 360 software, Navisworks software, and Revit software. There is also a lab that coincides with the concepts discussed in this lecture.
This class will help you to explore preliminary bridge design options by using Bridge Design for InfraWorks 360 to visualize realistic civil structures in the context of the surrounding proposed site. Then Structural Bridge Design software is used to analyze the bridge in the cloud. We run a line girder analysis to verify the structural strength of the bridge girders and ensure they meet design standard requirements. Next we take the design into Navisworks software to uncover design problems and constructability issues more effectively and plan the construction sequencing. The InfraWorks software model is taken into AutoCAD Civil 3D software for precise grading. Then we round trip the model back into InfraWorks for better design communication.

Municipal infrastructure engineering projects like mass rapid transit, improved sewers, and water mains have been booming over the last few years due to population growth and a focus on better urban planning to do more with existing city-owned property and road networks. For every project, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is required to do a full investigation of existing underground assets before the design is complete and certainly before shovels hit the ground. In this session we will first look at various best practices using AutoCAD Civil 3D software to build intelligence into SUE data sets and Navisworks software for performing clash analysis between existing utility objects and design objects. We will then end the session using InfraWorks 360 software to present our combined model to others in the Project Team. Using InfraWorks 360-Collaboration software, the session will show some inventive mobile field capability for viewing, photo, and data capture that you can post to the model.
This case study will provide an overview on how Aurecon has utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) to provide Queensland’s largest airport with a comprehensive analysis of the existing chilled water system within their domestic terminal. We will go through the steps undertaken from getting existing 2D as-installed documents and previously scanned models into Revit MEP software correctly for pipework analysis. Finally, we will go into detail on the process undertaken for getting all the engineering data correct and utilizing Autodesk, Inc.’s, latest product Project Dalton and its API to visually analyze the complex existing chilled water network through all of its various operating conditions.
The presentation looks at key drivers for use of BIM technology in construction, including a series of case studies on Infrastructure projects to demonstrate key uses of BIM as a contractor. An emphasis will be placed on how to establish a use case and to plan the management of information to ensure successful results through adoption of BIM as a project tool. This includes outlines and tips for authors of models to produce a functional product that can be used to enhance productivity in construction. Further demonstration of the end uses of the information on large and complex infrastructure projects to relate the authoring and design process through to construction processes. There is an ever increasing demand on delivery of complex infrastructure in the region and the presentation focuses on delivering BIM throughout the project life cycle to create the softest landing for the next consumer of the information. This includes the establishing a common project structure/language and the importance of culture in the adoption of BIM a technology in construction. Recent key updates in the technology will be highlighted with a focus on the Revit, Civil 3D and Navisworks platforms. This will include a review of where the infrastructure industry is heading with BIM and how to set up for future success.
