With Inventor software and the Substation Design Suite from Automationforce, Inc., you can utilize existing CAD files to complete projects in 3D. Quite often it isn’t financially viable to model an entire existing site, but you can still design your project in 3D and produce revised substation drawings, making parts of an existing station intelligent. Combining a new 3D model with existing 2D drawings enables utilities to benefit from the power of 3D design while saving time and money by eliminating the need to reverse engineer from site visits, redlines, and other information that is needed to piece together the current as-constructed state of a substation. This session will cover possible workflows and use cases for brownfield design, which include setting up new 3D models and drawings with legacy 2D data as well as managing an existing bill of materials to add, change, or delete items based on a project.

This class will show you how we have developed new processes in our company through the use of Inventor software and Vault software. We will explain how Vault software features such as lifecycles and categories are being used to control design to manufacturing workflow and operations. We will then cover the integration of the software in a globalized environment, the implementation of site-specific processes, and the system monitoring required to avoid complication with several errors we have encountered. The final point will show how, thanks to use of custom API, we provide design information to our manufacturing department. This includes how we initially planned to use Vault vanilla or thin client, and how we had to develop customized tools aimed for the manufacturing department to access design documents.
Vault software has had some major enhancements in the last year, especially in areas such as Items and Bill of Materials, Inventor Integration, Copy Design, and more. This class will give you an overview of some of these enhancements. Please note that in this class we will be going over some of the features that were introduced in Vault 2015 R2 software as these features are significant contributors to the evolution of Vault software.

Reality capture techniques are becoming commonplace in many aspects of design. The factory layout process is no different. From the clean up and orientation of the point cloud to the possibility of using point clouds as factory assets, when it comes to utilizing point clouds with Factory Design Suite software, there is a lot to consider. Join us in this class as we focus on the various techniques and workflows for capitalizing on point clouds captures in the factory layout process.
Utilizing the Frame Generator within Inventor Professional software, we will open a machine support structure to demonstrate an improved workflow for design. First we will suppress the machine model elements and then we’ll modify the frame to show how to improve timeliness of the analysis. Next we will perform a quick frame study within Inventor Professional software for the natural frequency and stress analysis. Then we will push the model directly to Robot Structural Analysis software to do some advanced analysis and loading. Finally, we will discuss optimization of the support structure. Throughout the presentation the discussion will focus on how to design a “stout” structure while not wasting time or material. This workflow will prove to be repeatable and efficient back at the office.
