With the integration of hand sketching into the digital workflow, we are no longer bound to the finite limitations of our tools. Step through an integrated design process, utilizing laptops and iPads in conjunction with SketchBook Pro software, FormIt software, Fusion 360 software, Revit software, and Dynamo visual programming language extension. In this course, learn how to integrate and capitalize on the power of design sketching in fluid conjunction with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) model. Learn how to utilize SketchBook Pro in the IOS/iPad to create initial sketch concept(s) and import into FormIt software as background for underlay and development of design into a 3D massing model. Develop the massing model utilizing cloud-based FormIt software in conjunction with further overlays and sketching in SketchBook Pro on a pen/tablet interface. Utilize FormIt conceptual energy modeling to orient and refine the initial design concept. Using Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform and Revit Model software within the massing environment, models and concepts are shared with the Production Team and distributed to the contractor/owner teams.
<p>For years there has been a conceptual massing part of Revit software that could enable designers to do many of the things they can do in Trimble’s SketchUp modeling program directly inside of Revit software, but this has never really caught on and designers keep returning to SketchUp for ease of use. Now with the help of FormIt software you can take your project from conceptual design all the way to construction documents with these 2 connected products without having to leave the .RVT file format. You can begin the conceptual design in FormIt software and once the design is settled continue the working drawings process inside Revit software. There is also the added benefit of being able to work in FormIt software on your iPad or any computer in a web-based version, enabling for anytime-anywhere design to happen. FormIt software also has a feature that enables real-time team collaboration on a design. This means the multiple members of a team can be simultaneously working on the same file from different locations and different FormIt platforms.<br>

This class will showcase new high-performance building design workflows from Autodesk, Inc., and their applications in the early design stages. We will explain and explore through the case study application current technology and new features in FormIt 360 software and Revit software. This class will cover processes and best practices for using conceptual analysis tools as integrated, iterative, and collaborative parts of the design process from a Design Team’s point of view. It is critical to use performance analysis tools early when aiming for high-performance design goals. New high-performance building design workflows are making analysis tools more accessible and easier to use earlier in the design process than ever before. Analysis tools can go a long way toward informing design decisions, saving time, and improving the usefulness and validity of your design.
This lab is designed to give users hands-on experience with FormIt software. We will go step-by-step through creating geometries in FormIt, bringing geometries in from other programs, modeling them together to form a cohesive model utilizing basic and advanced tools, creating and applying materials, adding levels, reporting different object properties, grouping objects, arraying objects, running energy and daylight analyses, starting a sharing session with others, and then transitioning the model to Revit software. You will gain firsthand experience with utilizing this new and powerful toolset that can literally travel anywhere with you.
