This couldn’t be possible if BIM Engineers didn't use multiple Autodesk, Inc., products, and we will demonstrate how these products’ interoperability enabled us to successfully coordinate with the entire Project Team from inception to completion. These products combined enabled us to create a construction model that was not only used for coordination of all trades, but was also used to generate constructability drawings for the field. Watch as we demonstrate how to successfully create these drawings, and we’ll also show how a unique collaborative process and Autodesk products can improve any project’s return on investments.

This session will discuss the BIM 360 portfolio and how it can support you in design through to construction. You will get hands-on with Revit and Collaboration for Revit using BIM 360 Team to communicate with other team members to resolve design issues faster. Use BIM 360 Glue to spell-check your models against other disciplines. You will then investigate how your design can be taken out to site to help with commissioning and progress tracking.
This session examines 2 recent advances in BIM in the field of geotechnics. The first case study relates to the sharing of site-generated data, that is gathered electronically on-site, processed, and then uploaded to the BIM model, all automatically. In this way the stakeholders are seeing the object attributes updated in the integrated model in real time as the work is done. The advantages of this process include the obvious savings in time and effort, avoiding mistakes, self-certification, and the manifest openness that supports collaboration.
Concluding the class presented at Autodesk University 2015, Elliott Crossley returns to discuss the construction phase of a £330 million project in the UK. This class reveals the strategy and workflows involved in integrating fabrication information back into the Building Information Model, divulging the toolbox of a multidisciplinary design team at BDP from inception to completion, challenging current technology throughout, to deliver an Asset Information Model suitable for use in building operation.
Collaboration in construction is challenging. How can you organise the quality in data and geometry with all these different parties and models? Which software do you use to check your model: Navisworks or Solibri? An IFC workflow with Solibri provides you with insights into the different clashes and the possibility to check in a rule-based manner. But how do you create reports and collaborate with team members? Does Navisworks manage a better workflow with more possibilities for everybody? With Navisworks you are free of file format. It is easy to append and update Revit, IFC, RCP or DWG files to a federated model in a single file. Check model geometry, duplicates, and data in a standardised way with Collaborea, the rule-based model checker for Navisworks. A report is no longer necessary because all the issues are visible and editable on a cloud platform using Autodesk Forge. Checking and collaborating becomes easy and editing the models in an Autodesk workflow is simple.
IQL will show how there are different ways of working/interacting with the built environment and explain the integrated project delivery: client, project manager, and main contractor being 1 team with the same goal approach. We'll explain how we developed a strategy, managed the design, and delivered from concept design to project handover using different digital technologies at different stages. This class will demonstrate how we've created a strategy and EIR for a project that will run for the next 8 years and which will attract future tenants. We’ll show this from a project management point of view: management of the design stakeholders, management of design, BIM for master planning, quantification, the use of BIM for visualisation/VR, and BIM as a product to attract tenants. From a construction management view, we'll demonstrate trade design coordination, supply chain management/education, BIM on-site, 4D sequencing and construction optimisation, and BIM use for tenant engagement.
MWH are a global engineering and construction management company who build some of the world’s largest wastewater treatment plants. MWH in conjunction with Autodesk Consulting have implemented an innovative method to embed the construction Inspection Test Plan (ITP) inside BIM 360 Field. This method makes ITP completion intuitive for the site manager and enables the off-site quality management team and project manager to monitor its progress. Zoe Robertson from MWH and Anthony Neal from Autodesk Consulting will demonstrate how an ITP that has been documented in MS Excel can be generated into Autodesk BIM 360 Field clearly showing the building elements that require inspection and what quality inspections need to be conducted. We will also demonstrate how the ITP process can be further streamlined by embedding it in the BIM model during design. We will also discuss the people aspects that need to be understood and considered when driving QA/QC completion on-site.
Data sources in construction are exploding. Mobile devices and apps like BIM 360 Field are capturing and storing thousands of photos on typical projects. Drones, scanners, wearables and other construction management apps are adding to the mountain of data collected as a by-product of their use. To bring structure to our interpretations of these growing data streams, machine learning solutions are being applied to sort, filter, and surface insights so that projects can find the information they're looking for and make better decisions. This class will look at some early practical examples such as photo and video recognition for management and sorting of construction images, and predictive analytics in terms of highlighting high risk quality and safety issues. We'll also consider where the industry is going, as disparate data sources and applications become more integrated.
This class will be delivered by Kier Construction, a UK-based, industry-leading construction company, supported by Topcon and Autodesk. Kier will describe how they have applied Autodesk BIM 360 tools in collaboration with 3D laser scanners and total stations into their workflows on a complex construction project undertaken in the UK. Kier will demonstrate the key benefits of collaborative working, effective supply chain engagement, and adoption of technology on construction sites to realise and exceed client expectations. Using office-based software such as Navisworks, Revit, and ReCap, we will cover how using a variety of mass data capture techniques to gather as-built documentation combined with integrated on-site verification and management has improved efficiencies and reduced errors on construction sites. Kier will appraise the impact of using innovative new workflows to overcome interoperability challenges between several types of BIM authoring software.

Hill Construction will describe its Building Information Modeling (BIM) journey so far, and how the firm has applied BIM 360 tools into its workflows on a complex construction project undertaken by Hill Bespoke in Cambridge, England. The class will cover how using a variety of mass-data capture techniques to gather as-built documentation combined with integrated on-site verification and management has improved efficiencies and reduced errors using innovative new workflows. Hill will describe the impact of these new workflows incorporating software (including BIM 360 Field cloud service, BIM 360 Layout cloud service, BIM 360 Glue cloud service, and BIM 360 Docs cloud service) integrated with Topcon mass-data capture and layout solutions, and the efficiencies gained over traditional methods. We will show content and examples from the historically important housebuilding project combining both complex renovation with new-build processes. As a general contractor, quality control of building layout and verification is necessary to minimize the risk of rework and additional costs or schedule delays. When establishing site control to implement the use of total stations, the team will need to work through a number of challenges and prerequisites. General contractors will need to understand the risk of taking or not taking this responsibility or transferring the risk to third-party quality assurance / quality control teams. Buy-in from the project team and enforcing trades to work on the same controls across a site is important to consistency in layout and verifications. This class will highlight all the prerequisites and challenges that general contractors might typically face when implementing this process, and we’ll document a generic workflow for efficient implementation and best practices. This class will also cover a generic workflow of managing layout using the BIM 360 Layout app, Point Layout software from Revit software, Navisworks software, or AutoCAD DWG™ technology.
