In this class attendees will learn how to integrate 2D and 3D modeling within a multidimensional project. Specific focuses will include incorporating 2D line work from AutoCAD software into orthographic views within AutoCAD Plant 3D software and importing an AutoCAD Plant 3D software model into a 2D design environment. Both procedures require verbal and graphical coordination, layer control, and specific layer naming conventions to assist in the production of 2D plan views, drawing sets, and manipulation of object visibility in live section cuts. Topics will include developing solutions utilizing both forms of design, integrating various software programs and disciplines to maximize modeling performance and behavior, developing a systematic approach to integrating 2D and 3D models, and resolving conflicts that may arise. We will also cover file creation and management required for project setup. This advanced knowledge is beneficial to designers, engineers, and project managers who work on 2D/3D design projects.

Julian Chavez is an engineering designer providing intelligent-design solutions and support within the Colorado offices of AECOM Technology Corporation. Julian supports real-time design using AutoCAD Design Suites software for multiple practices, including oil and gas and mining process engineering, civil works, and structural. Julian is an AutoCAD Certified Professional with more than 16 years of experience. His vast knowledge has enabled him to provide training and support within his field for the past 6 years. Julian’s approach to teaching and public speaking creates a comfortable and productive learning environment. He has presented to clients and peers from all disciplines, ranging from groups of 5 people to those including 80 people. AECOM is a global provider of professional technical and management support services to a broad range of markets, including transportation, facilities, environmental, energy, water, and government.
Daniel Cavanaugh received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Colorado, Denver. He is now a practicing electrical, instrumentation & controls engineer at Carollo Engineers — an environmental engineering firm specializing in the planning, design, and construction management of water and wastewater facilities for municipal and public sector clients in the United States. Daniel has 4 years of experience designing instrumentation and control systems for a wide variety of plant and process projects for the mining and oil and gas industries. He provides Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation, SQL server project database integration, and training for the corporation’s computer-aided engineering design software, including AutoCAD Plant 3D software, AutoCAD P&ID software, Elecdes Design Suite software, Instrument manager software, and more. Based in Denver, Colorado, this is Daniel’s second visit to Autodesk University.

AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018 software now includes the ability for users to push AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID projects to the cloud and invite users to work collaboratively. In this class, we'll go through getting started on pushing a project to the cloud, and we'll cover how to navigate the user interface.

This class will show how you can share AutoCAD Plant 3D software with BIM 360 Team and Fusion Team (formerly A360 Team) to collaborate within your company or with your customer. We'll show how to bring your AutoCAD Plant 3D project into the cloud and how to work with the project through BIM 360 Team and Fusion Team.
This class will cover the proper methods for customizing AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018 isometric styles using the user interface within Project Setup, supplemented with XML file editing. Attendees will learn when to use the user interface, as well as gain insight into the advanced customization available by directly editing the IsoConfig.xml file for the style. Topics covered will include understanding how filters are used in the isometric configuration. We'll learn the difference between themes, schemes, memes-and how to manipulate annotations and dimensions to get the desired isometric deliverable.
New possibilities for data flow are the result of the Spec Driven P&ID feature introduced in AutoCAD Plant 3D 2017.1 software. Existing spec sheets can be used to facilitate the preparation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). The interface between AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D offers the possibility to connect the P&ID data with the 3D to let the data flow into it, or to run consistency checks between the P&ID and the 3D data. This lecture will show the configuration possibilities and present conceivable workflows, which should lead to an optimization of the project process that also prevents redundant data input.
In the design world, it's not uncommon that key project data is stored in application silos and requires a great deal of manual coordination. Autodesk has taken the first steps for architecture, engineering, and construction projects to make data available to multiple applications at once-by introducing a connected workflow that shares data from schematic diagrams with a Revit project. The Revit P&ID Modeler breaks silos down by letting the user begin with P&ID schematics in AutoCAD Plant 3D software to create intelligent, data-rich diagrams. The schematic data is hosted in the A360 cloud-computing platform cloud and is referenced by Revit project models. The 3D model consisting of elements such as piping, equipment, and accessories is then developed using information defined in the schematic, such as pipe size, pipe type, valve type, and equipment IDs. As the model is developed and the schematic iterated, the user receives feedback to help ensure consistency and that design intent is maintained. This session will cover how SSOE Group has changed its delivery process on retrofit projects to reduce waste in the engineering and construction process as a standard of care for its clients. The key point of this entire process is reliance on the laser scan and all team members working with the data in ReCap software, Navisworks software, and the modeling platform (Revit software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, or AutoCAD software). We'll cover how to plan your projects for reality capture, and bust myths on what you can or can not do. We'll present training materials and how to plan for making sure your team is adequately trained when your project begins to ramp up. Last, we'll review how to slam dunk your client and/or contractor review meetings with reality capture data and be the talk of the preferred suppliers among your peers.
This hands-on lab will cover how to edit point cloud projects in ReCap software for all disciplines and project types. We will review advanced documentation and annotation features to make finding equipment and rooms in the point cloud easier for all ReCap users. We'll also take a quick tour covering how to extract a piece of equipment for use in planning and general arrangements, or as a template for creating a 3D asset. Next, we'll go over the demolition workflow and how we've created various demolition packages over the years at SSOE Group. Finally, we'll review how to reduce storage on a network and use the undocumented feature of importing unified data sets in ReCap. No prior use of ReCap on a project is required, although it would be helpful to take a peek at the sample data provided with the application just to gain familiarity with the interface prior to the lab.
