How can 120 diverse stakeholders shape the design of a complex infrastructure project and gain community consent and agency approval—all in record time? Using InfraWorks 360 software as a collaboration tool, the owners, engineers, environmentalists, historians, regulators, news agencies, and local townspeople all worked together to affect design changes in a democratized and efficient working relationship. Using InfraWorks 360 software, we overcame the obstacles that typically plague rail projects, such as connecting villages and towns, crossing bridges and tunnels, using and repurposing existing corridors, and establishing new alignments. This was done using the ability to rapidly view, navigate, query, and create design alternatives in a real-world context. More specifically, this class will teach surface/terrain generation from high-resolution point cloud data in InfraWorks software and demonstrate how to use it in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The class will also cover how to model city asset features to create a virtual city model, and how to bring those city assets into a design product (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D software) as COGO points. This class does not have any prerequisite. Any knowledge of InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and point clouds will be helpful in understanding the class material. At the end of this class, attendees will be able to use point cloud data with ease and confidence for their modeling and design projects. This class will show you how InfraWorks 360 software is used as a design tool rather than just a visualization tool. Multiple examples will demonstrate how InfraWorks 360 software is used as a unique design tool in real-life projects on all kinds of unimaginable areas, such as telecommunications, architecture, mining, oil pipe layout, geographic information systems, and port engineering—clearly thinking outside of the box! This session features InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Starting in InfraWorks 360 software, we will create paths using InfraWorks 360 road tools, specifically design and component roads. We will then use AutoCAD Civil 3D software to convert imported InfraWorks 360 alignment(s) to Feature Lines, and create individual paths for vehicle movement: a single center-line path, merging lanes, and a bus turnout. In 3ds Max software we will use the Civil View extension to assign vehicles to imported paths, set speed, direction, vehicle type, starts, stops, and so on. Back in InfraWorks 360 software, we will import and configure the animation file(s), account for transformation shift on import, and watch as our vehicles “drive” the model. The round-trip of data will flow like this: InfraWorks 360 to AutoCAD Civil 3D to 3ds Max plus Civil View back to InfraWorks 360. This session features InfraWorks 360, 3ds Max, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

This class will cover the use of InfraWorks 360 software as a bridge modeling and design tool in the context of a wider transportation project, and we’ll explore a number of solid workflows to other bridge design and modeling products. You will learn not only how to model concrete bridges in InfraWorks 360 software, but also how to make use of the Line Girder Analysis cloud service to quickly validate the girders against different design standards and to establish the required prestressing. You will learn how to simply open up the corresponding analytical model directly in Structural Bridge Design software for further refinement and to carry out more-detailed analysis and design checks. You will learn how to open up the InfraWorks 360 model in AutoCAD Civil 3D software to carry out further refinements to the site and create alignment drawings that include the bridges. You will also learn how to create a Revit software model with a single click from the InfraWorks 360 model in order to add rebar and create structural drawings.
