Point Clouds have become a standard feature and now a very powerful one throughout Autodesk design products. In the field of steel and concrete fabrication for buildings, many designers are still adopting this technology while others are pushing for more efficient workflows in order to fully leverage the power of reality computing. This roundtable session will examine the use of 3D laser scanning for steel and concrete fabrication within the building design space. Attendees will learn how point clouds are being used today within Autodesk design products such as Advance Steel, Revit, AutoCAD and other Autodesk products. Discussions will include what workflows exist and what gaps need to be closed between laser scan data and needed design deliverables.

Scott Diaz

Scott Diaz is director of business development for FARO 3D Software (formerly kubit) at FARO Technologies, a global leader in the 3D sensor market. Over the past 7.5 years Scott has been promoting, developing, and teaching Autodesk-based reality capture and reality computing workflows throughout various industries. Scott oversees the integration of strategic architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC)/plant software solutions for FARO Technologies. He and his team strive to develop the best in field-to-finish workflows from laser scans to AutoCAD software and Revit software deliverables. Scott has a background in business management and marketing with an MBA from Lamar University. He is a multiyear veteran speaker at Autodesk University.

Udo Haedicke

After receiving his structural engineer diploma, Udo Haedicke worked for 9 years in a design office with several CAD and design software, and he started in 2008 as a technical sales specialist in GRAITEC Ltd. for Advance Steel software. Over the years he was promoted to become the Technical Sales Team lead in Germany and the local product manager for Advance Steel software. In 2013 he came with the acquisition of Advance Steel software to Autodesk, Inc., as a product / product line manager responsible for Advance Steel software and structural steel content for Revit software.
