Description

This interactive class will demonstrate the importance of the discovery process at the beginning of any visualization or video project. After an introduction to the key elements of the discovery phase, the class attendees will collaborate to develop a set of questions to ask during discovery that will achieve the best results and reveal the single most important message to tell. Working in small groups, the class will then compete with each other to find the most compelling story in several scenarios based on typical client requests.

John Higgs

John Higgs is the founder and president of Corgan MediaLab. He has honed his studio’s craft over the past 20-plus years, and now the Lab is recognized as a regional leader in the field of architectural visualization and storytelling. John has produced animations for a variety of architectural projects, including airports, office complexes, data centers, transit projects, and hospitals. He has also worked in the broadcast, film, interactive, music, and video game industries for clients such as Adidas AG; Hyundai; Dell; Mountain Dew; Atari; Nokia; and JPMorgan Chase Bank, While under his leadership, Corgan MediaLab has been honored with numerous awards and has been featured in many publications. John has spoken at Autodesk University for several years and at other conferences on the topics of technology and storytelling. He has also served on the advisory board at Full Sail University and acted as a visiting instructor at Texas Tech University for a graduate-level animation course.

Brandon Carmichael

After graduating from Wheaton College with a degree in film and art, Brandon Carmichael moved to the United Kingdom to work with Cannes Lions. Upon returning to the United States, he moved to Texas where his film career began in earnest. Over the last 12 years Brandon has produced countless commercials both domestic and international ranging from spots for Chick-fil-A to Super Bowl commercials. He is also an award-winning filmmaker, including for episodic, short, and full-length feature films. In 2013 he joined Corgan MediaLab as creative director and he headed up their film/video division. He leads a team of highly talented artists to craft narrative storytelling projects utilizing 3D animation and the integration of live action and 3D/FX. Brandon has also had the opportunity to teach at various conferences and festivals, including Autodesk University, the Dallas Producers Association, and other film-industry related events.
