With the new functionalities and plug-ins for Revit softwaresuch as Lighting Analysis for Revit software, Green Building Studio web-based energy analysis service, the Tally app, and the Dynamo visual programming language extensionnew potentials have emerged during the last year. These developments have not only led to much easier workflows, but also to a more holistic analysis of the building performance and urban comfort studies. In this lecture, these new potentials, workflows, and methods for visualizing simulations are shown based on various consultancy tasks and a research project that seeks to add knowledge to architects' design processes as supported with simulation tools. The research project also included a workshop where participants tested methods on unskilled architectural students. We will wrap this all up in the lecture and relate it to model detail levels, instead of the typical schematic design process related to design phases. In many cases, this does not reflect the actual design process. Design development is done in various detail levels at the same time, especially in the early design phases.

Danish architect Daniel Nielsen became interested in sustainability in 2001, and he now has both a broad understanding and practical experience in creating architectural sustainability. Daniel works on projects of various scalesfrom buildings to planningwith the aim of creating high-quality architectural designs that take comfort, climate conditions, and resources into account. He integrates Green Building Information Modeling (BIM) into his work, using digital 3D BIM modeling and simulation tools to visualize and validate his designs. At the moment Daniel is involved in various research projects and education programs as external researcher and educator at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. Daniel also consults about architectural design at architecture firms.

Since 2011 the firm HOK has been using a system to implement a minimum scope of building information modeling for all projects. HOK refers to this system internally as "BIM [Building Information Modeling] Certified." On some projects, HOK's Design and Engineering Teams are able to go far beyond BIM Certified in the pursuit of game-changing process improvement. In this class attendees will get an in-depth look at the inner workings of the David H. Koch Center, a new ambulatory care center for New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System. We will explore the successes and challenges of an integrated team that consists of 3 architecture firms, various modeling managers from trade partners, and multiple cloud-based approaches to BIM data management.

This class covers reasons for training (or not training) your employees and what managers can do to make sure their people are in the right classes at the right times. We will also look into the ways individuals learn when they attend a training class and how they can retain that knowledge. Finally, it covers ways in which managers can help their employees to retain class knowledge.
This class will describe an advanced implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) Solutions at SYSTRA. The BIM manager from SYSTRA will provide an overview of the company and the BIM roadmap deployment strategy. Autodesk Consulting will describe the methodology and the ways in which Autodesk, Inc., and SYSTRA have deployed this methodology on a BIM project. We will examine a project example with the different phases, BIM uses, and key actions.
Maybe you know the power of Revit software's Family Editor but you've avoided it or it has intimidated you until now. Wait no more. This hands-on lab will introduce you to the basics of Family Editor. Once you get past being intimidated, you will find that while Family Editor is extremely powerful, it can actually be great fun. In this short introduction to Family Editor, you will create a Revit component family complete with constraints and parameters. Don't worry if you don't know what a constraint or parameter is—we'll cover that too. Whether you've never worked in Revit software before, or you've used Revit software for a while but you've simply avoided Family Editor, this lab will teach you the basics of the editor in the most effective way possible—hands on. (The session uses architectural examples, but the concepts apply to the flavors of Revit software, including Revit LT software.)
This Building Information Modeling (BIM) management class is designed for CAD and BIM professionals, project managers, and other technical and management professionals who want to obtain the relevant knowledge and skills that are required to set up a company BIM deployment plan and BIM project execution plan and protocol. We will explore everything from making the transition from CAD to BIM, to defining roles and structuring teams. We'll also touch on common issues that arise in BIM projects and we'll show how crucial it is to have someone there to take care of them.
In this class you will learn how to set up your Revit software model for energy analysis within Revit and export out for analysis within Green Building Studio web-based energy analysis service. Learn where to go and what to do in order to set up the Building Information Modeling (BIM) information you need to generate a complete energy analysis. If we have enough time, we will look at Energy Analysis for Revit software from within the cloud.
Buildings are highly complex and dynamic systems. As such, determining the most effective ways to reduce energy use can be very challenging. This is especially true in design when there are many different factors to consider—unknowns will reveal themselves and things will change rapidly, all in a compressed time frame. In this class you'll achieve greater ease, continuity, confidence, and flexibility with a range of energy analysis, from concept to detailed modeling in the FormIt mobile app to Revit software. This is all made possible through recent and ongoing advances being made in automatic energy analytical model creation; use of cloud computing for parallel simulation processing of simulations; and more intuitive, interactive, and customizable reportage. This class will comprise largely of live demonstrations that will show the ease and possible depth of energy analysis, what to focus on when, and ultimately how you can trust the data in order to make better design decisions sooner.
