This class will help you to explore preliminary bridge design options by using Bridge Design for InfraWorks 360 to visualize realistic civil structures in the context of the surrounding proposed site. Then Structural Bridge Design software is used to analyze the bridge in the cloud. We run a line girder analysis to verify the structural strength of the bridge girders and ensure they meet design standard requirements. Next we take the design into Navisworks software to uncover design problems and constructability issues more effectively and plan the construction sequencing. The InfraWorks software model is taken into AutoCAD Civil 3D software for precise grading. Then we round trip the model back into InfraWorks for better design communication.
<p>Clash detection and interference checking have greatly improved how we deal with issues during the design phase. But without a comprehensive method for managing interferences, we quickly end up with thousands of meaningless clashes. To enhance your coordination process we will present some rules to improve clash detection and management during design phases. We will illustrate this class with a case study from Paris where clash detection helped to find and solve coordination problems on a complex laboratory project. This class will covers various methods for creating an efficient clash-detection matrix, import Revit software models in Navisworks Manage software, set up the associate selection sets, and run clash detection. We will see how to group clash results into meaningful reports, and how to automate this process using Navisworks software plug-in. Finally, we will see how to use these clash reports for measuring progress in the coordination during the design phase.<br>

This class will guide participants on how to plan for using large amounts of point cloud data across multiple offices quickly and efficiently. The key planning aspects we will cover will be how to handle all sizes of laser scanning projects and how to define an accurate scope when doing a scanning request for proposal (RFP). The project examples for this class will highlight how 500 GB-plus of point cloud data with staff members in 7 offices across the United States and an office in India was set up to decrease wide-area network latency and also improve workstation performance. Software workflows will show how laser scans were set up, including existing conditions model, demonstration drawings creation, and new design coordination with existing point clouds. The software discussed in this class will focus on ReCap 360 software, Navisworks software, and Revit software. There is also a lab that coincides with the concepts discussed in this lecture.
This presentation will provide an in-depth discussion of fabrication and Level Of Development (LOD) from the 2015 Associated General Contractors (AGC) Building Information Modeling (BIM) Forum LOD Specification. It will address model elements at the different stages in a building lifecycle: design, construction, and ownership. The framework of the discussion will consider the LOD Specification that defines models on a scale of 100 to 500 with a particular focus of LOD 350, which the speaker originally authored and introduced to the LOD Specification committee. The content will discuss how architects, mechanical engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, and fabricators use structural element models. This will demonstrate how you can use the newly issued LOD Specification to define team expectations of what should be modeled. We will show practical examples of model detail issues, along with effective approaches to resolve the challenges using the LOD Specification as an early BIM planning tool.
This case study will provide an overview on how Aurecon has utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) to provide Queensland’s largest airport with a comprehensive analysis of the existing chilled water system within their domestic terminal. We will go through the steps undertaken from getting existing 2D as-installed documents and previously scanned models into Revit MEP software correctly for pipework analysis. Finally, we will go into detail on the process undertaken for getting all the engineering data correct and utilizing Autodesk, Inc.’s, latest product Project Dalton and its API to visually analyze the complex existing chilled water network through all of its various operating conditions.
Gone are the days of relying solely upon in-situ mock-ups to generate issues and drive decision-making. With the emergence of the virtual mock-up and virtual reality solutions, mock-ups can now be generated much earlier in the coordination process, thus saving you time and money by driving the conversation earlier in the design phase. The purpose of this class is to demonstrate how utilizing lean construction methods and various tools (Navisworks software, Revit software, AutoCAD software, and 3ds Max software) coupled with virtual reality tools can enable you to guide the design and owner groups into making meaningful and educated design changes early in the design phase. Through the review of multiple case studies we will demonstrate the cost-benefit analysis of each type of mock-up, as well as determine which types of information we can obtain from each.
Walk through the construction process of a 2-million-square-foot world-class sports facility using Building Information Modeling to facilitate communication, improve understanding, and solve problems well in advance of costly surprises in the field. We'll review the tools that enable us to review/stamp 3D submittals on a 20,000-ton steel package, manage 25-plus Design Team Revit software projects, coordinate 300-plus trade contractor files using BIM 360 Glue software, visualize steel fabrication status, validate accurate installation using Point Layout software and laser scanning, and a lot more. Finally, we'll reveal what we can do better on the next stadium project (or major project in general).
This class is about creating a project environment that enables automatic creation and access to fully data-rich Navisworks software models from all 3D modeling software. We will discuss model structures, as well as synchronization of native files to cloud-based servers that enables the Building Information Modeling (BIM) data process to be automated and enable unlimited export customization of all types of software, reducing the work of BIM technicians. These processes include handling of spatial relationships between AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Revit software, and ProStructures plug-in, and all the automated steps required to take live native files at any point in time to fully prepared clean, data-rich Navisworks models using BIM flow technology. We will also discuss and demonstrate the importance of all project participants having access to these models with intuitive tools to access and filter models, and in doing so, creating full project awareness. We will then discuss how to move all of the above into a truly centralized review process using the Navisworks software platform.
