Based on the successful construction of a sustainable water reuse (purple pipe) project, this class breaks down the steps for managing large diameter (20 inch +) waterlines on major (5+ miles) projects. We show the basics for modeling existing utilities, managing updates to utility models based on test pit data, and pulling from the AutoCAD® Civil 3D® road design toolset to develop waterline models. As we begin to dive into the pressure pipe tools of Civil 3D 2014, we discuss the transition to those new features. Next, we show you how to market the process of design on infrastructure projects, so as to show the 3D elements of what's still delivered as 2D paper plans. With expansive projects, the use of InfraWorks™ software has provided a great set of tools for quickly compiling data from multiple sources into a single location and present visualizations based on active design files to clients and the community.

As Dewberry's Director of Virtual Design, Jennifer Taylor is responsible for leading the strategic direction for the implementation of BIM throughout the firm for both horizontal and vertical practice areas. Jennifer has not only developed internal technical plans for implementing standards and corporate wide training objectives, but has also worked closely with Clients to help them understand the use in project work and how it's use translates to more efficient building methods. Additionally, Jennifer's expertise allows Dewberry the value-added service of working with Clients to develop the vision for how the Client will be able to utilize the technology after the project is completed.
First introduced to Civil 3D in college, Cody has aimed to implement the relevant design tools into creating advanced workflows for Dewberry's land development and infrastructure projects. As a site/civil engineer in Fairfax VA, working in and around DC, many of the projects are redevelopment efforts and include complex existing and proposed infrastructure. As something of a passion, Cody has always admired architectural visualizations, and continues to find ways to deliver engineering projects with the same presentation quality. We've seen tremendous support from clients on continuing to model our projects, and present the models through rich images and videos produced by supporting software such as InfraWorks and 3ds Max Design.

Points have many settings that can help import, create, and manage through style formats, description keys, label components and even layer controls. As we work in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, we all start to find ways we can optimize our point data whether it's by importing, exporting, or creation. In this class, you learn tips and tricks that will help you in your process of working with your Civil 3D points by display through styles. You learn ways to manage these points through groups and examine settings as you manage your point drawing. We also dig deeper into a Civil 3D template to help you manage points through styles and settings. I'm excited to show you options to control your points via a style through layers, text styles, and options using tips I've learned in the industry and from training others.
Learn how to create tunnel sections and corridor modeling solids for tunnels in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Learn how Civil 3D interacts with Revit Structure software and how to manipulate tunnel solids, obtain drawings, and create reports, volumetrics, and visualization in Revit Structure. Finally, learn how to model a tunnel natively in Revit Structure and export it to Civil 3D.
This class takes a focused look at a couple of workflows in AutoCAD Civil 3D software that use corridors to model surfaces with complex slope geometries. We present several examples from actual grading projects. One example demonstrates the creation of a slope that uses target alignments and profiles to control the placement and grade of a mid-slope bench and drainage channel. The second example shows how to use default and custom subassemblies to model variable height retaining walls.
Learn the ins and outs of the River and Flood Extension for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 software. Prepare and model a floodplain, levee, and bridge system with Infrastructure Design Suite Ultimate. Join us in this hands-on lab to learn the River and Flood Extension for preparing design analysis of river systems.
Come to this class to learn how to wow your customers and win stakeholder approvals with 3D utility proposals, whether it is in a corporate boardroom or an eastern Idaho farm. This class demonstrates how a beginner to InfraWorks software can create a model that will win shareholder approval—even if your office does not draft in 3D. We present in-depth use cases on hydroelectric facilities, substations, and proposed transmission lines. The class covers the fundamentals of how to quickly and easily create an InfraWorks model. We also demonstrate how to use information from the office, such as GIS or LIDAR data, and we point out useful freebies on the web. You've never created a film in InfraWorks before? No problem—we cover some film-making basics and highlight easy ways you can show off your proposals.
The first and foremost workflow in utilities is to enable the designers to access as-built information from mapping and/or GIS systems. This roundtable session covers the capabilities of Autodesk Utility Design 2014 software and its data exchange framework for integrating with external as-built data. The complete round-trip workflow enables users to track and merge back information without loss of data fidelity in the translation process.
Modeling a water distribution system has always been a tedious process. AutoCAD Civil 3D software offers tools that will greatly assist you with this process. For horizontal layout as well as vertical layout, Civil 3D can model just about any situation you will run into. In this class, we see how to create a 3D model of our water distribution system, edit the system to account for those design changes, and analyze it for design errors. Note that this class does not get into hydraulic analysis.
