Only a few years ago, we saw the introduction of new technologies such as 3D parametric and intelligent bidirectional design tools. Now we are trying to retrofit them to serve our ability to design and deliver products in ways that are very complex. We've heard a lot about the trends and tools, but we have spent little time addressing the impact on the people in our organizations. We can teach skill sets, but shifting people's approach to design, collaboration, and build among themselves, their consultants, and clients through technology is now an urgent issue that may decide between the success and failure of our financial investments. In this roundtable session, we look at the key variables that keep our staff from embracing this new way of doing business. We provoke the legal, financial, cultural and technological aspects of our transformation, only to realize that we have years of processes to undo to make our new approach worth investing in.

He recently joined Walt Disney Imagineering's Practice Technologies division as a technology executive + Imagineer to oversee technology strategy and implementation across all of Imagineering's facilities, shows, and rides from design through construction. Joseph is a veteran AU speaker, deeply active in the software industry and currently serving on the Autodesk Customer Advisory Board. He went to school in architecture, minored in information technology, and is genuinely interested in preparing the next generation of students to come into the work place by serving on multiple advisory boards at the higher-education level.
As the definition of Building Information Modeling (BIM) evolves and becomes a better-known and established collaboration process in the building design and construction industry, owners increasingly require BIM services from construction managers, architects, and engineering firms. AE/C/CM firms are investing in BIM technologies to help them during bidding, preconstruction, construction, and post-construction. The roundtable explores past and existing project-based solutions and best practices while looking to use the range of products in Building Design Suite in a successful project workflow. The discussion also looks at technical problems that were encountered during this process and explores suggestions on how to resolve them. The concluding part of this roundtable addresses the lessons learned and looks to exchange a set of practical hints and tips that can assists the group in achieving a highly productive workflow.

Reality capture is becoming predominant in architectural, engineering, or construction work. Using the ReCap family of products and services in conjunction with Autodesk applications, it's now becoming very easy to design in context using as-built scanned data as a reference. This class teaches you how to take advantage of new workflows based on ReCap software for several use cases that are related to BIM, such as retrofitting a renovation, conceptual modeling, and so on, using both laser scanners and photographs.
