This class will focus on two advantages that construction companies can gain when collaborating in the cloud: collaboration and scalability. We will discuss how to rapidly and effectively share, aggregate, and communicate Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based information in a controlled manner, across a diverse, often geographically dispersed and changing project constituency. We will then show how shifting these workflows to the cloud enables scalability and explain how to provide both the technology and the people to meet the changing demands of a portfolio of projects while seamlessly bringing new companies into a project supply chain.
Construction managers, virtual design and construction (VDC) engineers, owners, project managers, and BIM managers
Speaker: Connor Burke, McCarthy

BIM has generally been seen as a design solution, or for clash detection, but the embedded data can provide new ways for contractors to both improve their business capabilities and find new commercial opportunities. Leading industry providers, such as Beck Technology, RIB, Sage Estimating and Sigma Estimates, are connecting BIM into their existing estimating solutions; and new providers, such as Assemble, are addressing the opportunity of BIM processes in preconstruction. This class will look at some of the ways such companies are enabling contractors to achieve better decision making and ultimately drive project based impacts.
This course will start with the assumption that many CAD / Building Information Modeling (BIM) managers have little to no direct managerial authority over the staffers they support, yet they're still expected to get results. To make things worse, many times these managers are also engineers, architects, or designers working under severe time constraints while expected to remain billable. This course will present strategies for peer-to-peer interaction with users and project managers that can help you persuade people to comply with key CAD/BIM management directives such as standards, file storage, training, and interdepartmental coordination. If you fit the peer-to-peer CAD/BIM manager profile, you're sure to pick up some solid ideas you can use immediately. And even if you do have full managerial authority, you can still benefit from using some of these collaborative and persuasive strategies. This class is designed for managers of numerous disciplines.
The numbers are harsh: while women make up more than half of the workforce in the United States, women account for only 25% of jobs in Information Technology, and the numbers of women dwindle

Women are significantly underrepresented in the Information Technology Field. Today in the United States, they account for approximately 25% of the workforce, but it is not only about the numbers. It is about enriching and complementing your IT workforce with the diverse qualities and perspectives of women. Hear from a panel of women including Elizabeth Harper Chief Information Officer responsible for IT Systems at global Engineering Company GHD Services Limited who understands and know the challenges first hand for women. She is an active participant in the Women in Technology "Mentor for a Moment"; program and developed a structured leadership development program for her team, which enables people to build individual career plans and maintain skill levels in a rapidly changing environment. In this Industry Talk, the panel of women will share their insights and challenges they have faced and will provide you with the tools to capitalize on opportunities now that will help to grow and shape the future of women in the IT Industry. They will make you realize the importance of promoting male champions of women in the IT Industry to be change agents in male-dominated companies. Discover on a personal level from the panel how these women overcame the barriers and to be a catalyst for change now and in the future for women. This industry talk will both inspire a generation of upcoming women as well as encourage the current generation's role in mentoring them. Join us today in growing, nurturing, inspiring and empowering the next generation of women in Technology.
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." Autodesk Generative Design (formerly Dreamcatcher) is Autodesk's amazing and innovative standalone application for generative design. With this revolutionary software, we can design products with the influence of nature and the power of computing. These generated designs are something you could only dream about. This instructional demo will cover basics of the Autodesk Generative Design software. We will demonstrate the steps needed to get your data loaded, constraints added and objectives set. After that, we will then show what definitions are required to process the information and how easy and informative it is to view the computed results. Sample parts will be used for the demo and shown for reference. Other topics will include subscription information, technical specifications and more. Only released Autodesk software made available to the public will be demonstrated.
AutoCAD Civil3D 2018 introduced a raft of new features. This class looks at two of those new features, connected alignments and dynamic offset profiles and how they will change the way you work with Civil3D.We will also look at some innovative ways to use these new features for other things, not just junctions.Who needs the junction wizard anymore? This workflow gives you more control and versatility.
If you joined one of the earlier workshops, you wouldn't want to miss this session. Join Laurie and team as they review the findings from the class exercises. Facilitators will present their current best practices and the ideas that were generated in the workshops.

Then, participants will vote on the most exciting concepts to continue to collaborate on with Autodesk. At the end of the session, everyone will leave with new strategies and tactics for improving his or her project delivery challenges.
Learn how to use direct modeling in Fusion 360 software to heal imported geometry using the "wound and heal" method. See how easy it is to defeature models for 3D printing or finite element analysis. Need to make a change that would bring a history modeler to its knees? See how easy it can be done with direct modeling methods. Finally, see how to design models using direct editing methodologies.
Speaker: Paddy Ryan, BIM Lead, MACE

The Digital Journey is exactly that - a journey, not a single step. It requires companies to adjust to advances in technology, which can be disruptive and challenging. But, not all those challenges come at once. By adopting the right approach, the journey can be smoother.Hear a travelogue of experiences from one construction company that has made meaningful progress on their own Digital Journey, and what continues to drive them towards their destination.
Great CAD managers know that they can positively impact the bottom line by making projects run smoother and by reducing errors, but they often have difficulty getting their management teams to understand. In this session, we'll talk about ways to integrate CAD management into project workflows in a way that cuts rework and gets more work done in fewer man-hours-saving the company money on every project. CAD managers will learn valuable tips for selling this approach to their senior managers, while IT and senior managers will gain valuable perspectives on how CAD management can impact their company's profitability. Along the way, we'll pay particular attention to measuring savings and computing the return on investment for CAD management. If you want to get your boss to notice and listen to you, save him or her money with the concepts you'll learn in this class-and watch your career take off.
Come and discover how easy it is to get started with add-in generation for multiple tools. There are things that are specific to each product, but there are also a lot of things that can be shared. Come and learn what pitfalls the speaker overcame, and get going with add-ins in a matter of hours.

That final detailed grading around the houses when designing a residential subdivision has always been a time-consuming and tedious process. This class will show you techniques that will let you quickly and accurately grade that final design. The focus of this class will be primarily on using feature lines to grade out the lots. You will learn different techniques for creating feature lines, most of the editing tools for feature lines, how to stylize and label your feature lines, and how they can be incorporated into a surface. Even if you've never graded a subdivision and never plan on doing so, if you've ever done any grading at all, you'll benefit from this class, as the tools we'll show here are extremely versatile and you can use them in just about any grading exercise.
