New reality capture and reverse engineering techniques enable us to create precise and parametric 3D digital models of physical objects. In this class, you will learn the benefits of combining reality capture and reverse engineering technologies for the purpose of successfully digitizing existing parts and objects. This killer combination can be used in many stages of design and refactoring of parts, molds, and other artifacts. We will demonstrate the intriguing steps of transforming the data from a point cloud to a smart 3D parametric model that can be then further analyzed, used for simulation, or repurposed. You will learn about the types of data that are generally used and why and how the transforms impact the product.
Engineers who interested in reverse engineering and reality capture; familiarity with reality capture or parametric modeling is convenient, but not necessary
This class will examine the methods and benefits obtained in the implementation of a geotechnical Building Information Modeling (BIM) utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D software and HoleBASE SI for a large transportation project with 118-plus borings within the Seattle area. McMillen Jacobs Associates knew they needed better visualizing methods and improved workflow efficiency when working with geotechnical data than those that the firm's legacy gINT system offered. The firm had a strong desire to utilize the functionality that Autodesk technology offered. The aim was to let this data be easily viewed and exploited in AutoCAD Civil 3D. The class will cover the transition to the AutoCAD Civil 3D / Keynetix solution, why a change was required, the new workflows developed to incorporate both legacy and new data, and the integration between the data management system HoleBASE SI and AutoCAD Civil 3D. We will also discuss any problems encountered in the process, together with the benefits gained and future opportunities the new technology will create.

In this class, we'll answer these questions while passing along effective practices for using Camtasia software as our editing tool of choice. From lesson planning to video capture through editing and creating output for various media environments, you'll learn some great tips and tricks. We'll also discuss some techniques you can use to refine your video presentations to evaluate your technique, voice, segment length, and pacing. If you've wanted to start making your own standards, project, or CAD training videos but weren't sure how to do it, this class will give you everything you need to get started.
This class will explore and question the standard forms of communication between architects, construction managers, and builders in various parts of the world. In some cultures, hiring an architect, designer, and/or construction manager is not a standard practice or form of service. Architectural drawings can be misleading and hard to understand to someone with limited education and background in the construction industry. The African Design Centre Fellows, together with MASS Design Group and Autodesk Foundation volunteers, workshopped and developed new drawing techniques and standards that can be applied in other contexts to break down the communication barrier between architects, builders, and foremen on construction sites in Rwanda. Using the Autodesk Foundation's Volunteer Rwanda Trip in October 2016 as a case study, the session will discuss the lessons learned and applied during workshops with builders and foremen to help architects and designers communicate more effectively.
