In this class, we will present perspectives and practical examples from our work on implementing an innovative approach to the construction, commissioning, handover, and lifecycle management processes for a facility. Consigli, the contractor on the project, is closely working with BRG, the building owner’s workplace management consultant. The project team mapped the owner's information needs from operations backwards into the construction and commissioning process, then implemented a set of technologies to deliver on this information flow. Key technologies in use include cloud- and iPad®-based field management software from Vela Systems®, Autodesk® Navisworks®, Autodesk® Revit®, and ARCHIBUS IWMS software. This class will explore each speaker's perspective on how this comprehensive approach to gathering and managing key systems and facilities data has changed both the process of delivering the project as well as the ultimate deliverable to the owner.
This class shows how extensions to Autodesk Revit Structure software can dramatically speed up creation of precast elements. You will learn how to define families for hollow core slabs with profiles and the strand patterns. These families will be used for automatic dividing of hollow core slabs into producible panels. We will look at assemblies and describe how the same precast elements can be found automatically. The class also covers how to use the split tools in Revit Structure to split the slabs manually. We will go through the automatic creation of shop drawings and data for the production in the precast factory. With the defining of the transport stacks and the production line, we will see the full workflow from design to production for hollow core slabs inside of Revit Structure.
Learn skills faster, retain knowledge longer, and apply your technical skills to real-world projects better. Join this panel of industry and education experts who have successfully implemented effective Autodesk training programs that are designed to improve retention by increasing the "stickiness factor." Understand how an interactive, closed-loop learning methodology of short subtopics will optimize concentration and engagement, resulting in a more effective transfer of knowledge from short-term to long-term memory (the stickiness factor). Skip the check-box approach and integrate the right learning style for the right learning objective at the right time. All too often, knowledge is lost in the timing between training and application. Learn how these organizations have prioritized high-retention, quick-review training to ensure that their staff or students are ready for projects on demand.
Contemporary shifts in technology and environmental concerns are changing the circumstances of building performance. Integrated teams that employ interdisciplinary design and construction personnel are responding to this changed set of conditions. The foundation of interdisciplinary architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) practices begins with the education of the next generation of AEC practitioners. In this class, we will discuss how students engaged in an iterative design and learning process build knowledge and communication skills toward an integrated design-build studio. This integrated design-build studio uses a series of assignments housed in dedicated design labs where students solve realistic design problems. Faculty-implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and established ecological accounting methods increase interaction and innovation in the interdisciplinary design-build studio.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Autodesk didn't exist, but if it did then the fate of the Death Star and the Empire would not have been determined by those pesky rebels. Using Autodesk Revit® and Autodesk® Navisworks® software and the Autodesk® BIM 360™ cloud-based platform, as well as Microsoft® Project, Darth Vader and his project team could have built the Death Star more quickly, more safely, and with more information for important decision making, such as whether to destroy Tattooine and just be done with it. This class will cover advanced workflows and tips for using Autodesk products for more than just the basics, turning you from a naive Jedi padawan to an efficient Sith overlord in just an hour.

Perhaps you have heard that stairs and railings in Autodesk Revit 2013 software have gotten some significant new features. It's true! Stairs and railings sport many new features in this release. In this class, we will focus on a few new areas that should have an immediate positive effect on your stair and railing modeling workflow. Many commercial buildings include overlapping stairs, such as overlapping egress stairs. Using the new component-based stair, we will explore how we can now create an overlapping stair. Revit 2013 gives us ways to achieve such a stair without the common workarounds. With the new railing features, we can create handrails that include parametric railing extensions. Furthermore, handrails can now have true supports and returns (not balusters masquerading as supports). Stairs and railings are likely to remain an active area of development in future Revit releases, but don't let this stop you from exploring the many exciting possibilities that Revit 2013 presents right now.
While still new to some, leading organizations are integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and facility management workflows to deliver impressive results. Simplifying building handover, improving space management, and streamlining maintenance planning are just a few of the benefits. But how do you get there? Defining BIM deliverable guidelines and resolving contractual and process issues are first steps to ensuring the model is a usable tool that becomes an essential part of a facilities management strategy. But how do you gather the needed data from all the stakeholders in the building lifecycle and deliver on the owner’s requirements? What makes a successful project handoff? As leader of the FM:BIM working group for FM:Systems, Marty works daily with organizations as they implement BIM into their facilities strategy. Join Marty Chobot as he discusses best practices in collaboration as learned from customers like The MathWorks, Xavier University, and the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Autodesk Revit software 3D models contain rich data that is important to builders. Getting all the data, geometry, object properties, and custom parameters out of the unique data structure of Revit remains a challenge. Builders are often given models that have not been developed with their input and contain object property information that is incomplete, inaccurate, or generic. In this class, we will demonstrate how all data from Revit can be extracted quickly, enabling model quality assessment prior to performing 4D simulation, clash detection, and 5D estimating. In addition, you will learn to push new data into Revit, to better manage and comprehend Revit data as the model progresses in development, and to use techniques for model variance analysis and trends. The class will also cover strategies, workflows, and best practices for creating Revit templates that optimize data extraction and enable Revit objects to be mapped to external databases or to be further manipulated for additional analysis.
