This class will present a database-grounded solution for connecting all information that is accumulated in a building project and articulating it in manner that enables easy and effective use of the data. We will show you the processes and procedures that connect all of the disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, medical equipment, furnishings, and civil engineering) into a single dataset that can be hosted on the web and made accessible to all parties. Through the use of dRofus, Autodesk® Navisworks®, and Autodesk® Revit®, we established a process that allowed the contractor, subcontractor, architect, engineers and owner to dynamically view, comment, and direct the design and construction decisions during the design phase rather than during the construction phase.

This class will provide tips, tricks, and best practices for using Autodesk Showcase software in the context of an architectural project. AutoCAD® or Autodesk® Revit® users who want to explore a project with their peers or present it to their customers will find this class very interesting.
This virtual class provides real-world examples of how residential/multifamily structural engineers and trades are using Building Information Modeling (BIM) for wood-framed projects. Integrated project delivery (IPD) processes and workflows have been developed to streamline design and construction. This technology is based on AutoCAD® Architecture and Autodesk® Revit® software, which are integrated via model map technology. The model map files can be exported to truss and wall component manufacturers to eliminate the interpretive redraw process. Structural engineers can now visualize, design, and draft in 3D, while collaborating with teams of suppliers and trades. Material lists can be exported for quantified value engineering. BIM based off-site construction techniques that are linked to the models can be used to accelerate project schedules. Using BIM and IPD at the design stage provides valuable data and critical path information, offering a win-win scenario for the owner as well as all participants.

Autodesk Revit software 3D models contain rich data that is important to builders. Getting all the data, geometry, object properties, and custom parameters out of the unique data structure of Revit remains a challenge. Builders are often given models that have not been developed with their input and contain object property information that is incomplete, inaccurate, or generic. In this class, we will demonstrate how all data from Revit can be extracted quickly, enabling model quality assessment prior to performing 4D simulation, clash detection, and 5D estimating. In addition, you will learn to push new data into Revit, to better manage and comprehend Revit data as the model progresses in development, and to use techniques for model variance analysis and trends. The class will also cover strategies, workflows, and best practices for creating Revit templates that optimize data extraction and enable Revit objects to be mapped to external databases or to be further manipulated for additional analysis.
Autodesk has developed a suite of Building Information Modeling (BIM) programs that are useful throughout the AEC industry during all phases of a project. For construction entities, a critical phase of a project is pursuit and award—without it there is no project. During this phase, a logistical building information model can be extremely useful for developing and conveying a thorough understanding of a project as well as the ability to complete it. This is also a time when project information, up to and including a BIM model, is in the early stages of development and can be difficult to obtain. Using an actual project, we will walk you through how to use view templates more productively, utilize materials for your LEED® requirements and how to use the visualization and graphics tools together with an integrated workflow to other Autodesk software such as Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design. This class will also illustrate that by combining products such as the Autodesk® 360 cloud-based platform and Citrix® technologies, collaboration workflows with other offices around the globe are increasingly more productive.
If you have tried to use Autodesk Revit software to produce finish plans or interior elevations, you may have found it challenging to develop an acceptable workflow. Many approaches are often employed; using materials, split face, and paint or simply using text notes and symbols. Each of these approaches has its benefits and its limitations. However, without one consistently reliable approach, the project team can suffer. Developments in recent releases of Revit offer a compelling alternative. Revit 2012 introduced parts and 2013 has overhauled materials. While neither of these feature enhancements was specifically designed for designating finishes, you can nonetheless build a very compelling workflow with parts and materials being the central component of the workflow. In this class, we will look at parts, understand their features, and couple them with the new materials functionality to make a very compelling workflow for designating and documenting finishes in your architectural and interiors projects.
This class presents 3 unique case studies that show how forward-thinking building owners are taking advantage of a retro-BIM workflow to capture a wide range of information about their existing facilities that they can use to make them more sustainable. To demonstrate this process across different scales and types of projects, we will discuss the 6,000,000-square-foot BIM Implementation Project at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and the Chinatown Community Development Center’s 1204 Mason St. Facility (a 20,000-square-foot building consisting of low-income housing and small commercial business spaces). Finally, we will explore an energy-driven retrofit on Autodesk corporate headquarters in San Rafael, CA by the newly formed Autodesk Business Integration & Sustainability Initiative Group. The goal of this first project by the group is to test the recently developed energy optimization workflows and define a protocol for energy consumption reductions that will scale to the Autodesk global real estate portfolio.
