In this class, Hill will discuss the process of using Autodesk Fabrication software to design, prefabricate, and build mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems; and cover the value of using the estimating module to instantaneously evaluate actual costs and the delta costs of jobsite changes. Hill & Samsung C&T will then discuss the impact Autodesk Fabrication has on changing the traditional bid/build process into a more collaborative and integrated processes. Samsung C&T will then discuss their experience with implementing Autodesk Fabrication Software in the Asia market place, where BIM is now finding its tipping point to enter into the mainstream.

For the past 2 years Denis has been the BIM Development Manager at Samsung C&T headquartered out of Seoul, South Korea. Prior to Samsung he had spent nearly 10 years at Bovis Lend Lease managing all aspects of BIM relating to; Design, Estimation, Logistics, Safety, MEP Coordination, 4D scheduling, Animation and more. At that time he was also the recipient of the “Innovator of the Year” award that resulted in a mandatory global implementation of a graphics based safety review process he had developed. Outside of the office Denis has developed and taught a course at Columbia University named “IT Advantages in Construction”. Today he continues his education passion as a professor at Yonsei University, in Seoul South Korea. His underlying theme in everything that he teaches and does is to build efficiencies and streamline processes to make life easier. Denis has previously has spoken at various BIM conferences in both the USA and Korea.
This class will provide an overview of how Bechtel has used technology to help drive the capital investment project at London Gatwick, which is the world’s busiest single runway airport and the second largest airport in the UK. The discussion will focus on how Autodesk® software has been implemented along with a range of other technologies to deliver a carefully planned, multidisciplinary project, including new terminal buildings, renovations, and infrastructure works. With over 200 projects either in progress or planned, the coordination between the airport authority, Bechtel, and a host of subcontractors is crucial, and it requires intelligent use of standards and collaboration tools. This class will be jointly delivered by Bechtel and Autodesk and will focus on the flow of data from preliminary design through to architecture, engineering, construction, and beyond.

The design development stage of a building design is an important time for refining the building design for meeting requirements, but it is also the time when good communication with the client is crucial for getting their approval. In this class, we will demonstrate ways of using Autodesk Revit software to make sure that you are fulfilling the design criteria through verifying space usage per the program, addressing room occupancy, and visually coordinating fire-rated walls and doors. We will also show how to communicate the design to the client through room data sheets, 3D plans per floor, floor plan shadowing, color schemes, and other methods.

The typical workflow for architects, and interior and lighting designers requires the ability to quantify furniture, fixtures, and specialty equipment per room or space. This functionality has been missing from the Autodesk® Revit® Architecture software until now. Revit 2013 finally gives the architecture profession access to the embed schedule. In Autodesk® Building Design Suite Premium and Ultimate editions, Revit 2013 contains all the flavors of Revit, streamlining workflows and giving its users access to unique abilities.
The use of lines in Autodesk Revit models can sometimes be shortsighted, leading to messy model files and uncoordinated drawings, or worse, missing information when collaborating with teams. However, what if there is a time crunch, and no time to think straight? How can you sort out the immediate task and know what is best to do in these situations? Learn to stop for a moment, breathe, and identify the immediate task and the workflows that are needed. Find out how to appropriately use lines in Revit models and the best practices to follow through with after the immediate task is complete. Understand the reasons for using and not using lines within the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Learn how to turn those lines into components instead, taking advantage of associated Revit software functionality, and breaking the desire to use lines in the first place.
In a fast-paced design-build environment, the ability to streamline and accelerate processes necessary for optimized project delivery is directly proportional to the ability to minimize information loss. Using real-life examples, we will demonstrate how complex projects and their demanding schedules be improved from the use of Autodesk Building Design Suite. The class will cover a Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow from the very beginning of the design and construction process. We will discuss how early decisions have a lasting impact on the building’s performance and lifecycle cost, explore the process of program development and client engagement using advanced visualization techniques, and finally, delve into the process of document production and coordination. This BIM-enabled workflow determines a team’s ability to collaborate and deliver a product that will exceed the client’s expectations.
In this case study, we will provide insight into a web-based workflow in which the entire design team took responsibility for identifying, reporting, and resolving clashes against their discipline’s major systems. The team used Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, a cloud-based management solution, and Autodesk Revit software to achieve continuous clash reporting throughout the design process. This effort effectively mitigated the mountain of clashes that can occur at the end of the construction document phase because the process was implemented early and on a consistent schedule with all design disciplines. We will identify lessons learned from this workflow, including both pros and cons.
