The Kid Architecture Workshop offered by Professor Jon Davey in Southern Illinois provides young students with a great foundational experience and appreciation for design as a lifelong career. This workshop has been in operation for the past 20 years, providing insights into how students learn about spatial design, building materials, visualization techniques, and using digital technologies to create design solutions. It also provides a solid foundation for students to pursue design or architecture in their post-secondary academic life. The workshop offers valuable data and insights on how learners successfully combine traditional experiential techniques with computer tools when approaching design problem solving. This class will present the Kid Architecture Workshop and will be followed by a panel discussion to find ways of assimilating and applying its findings to other areas of teaching design for a secondary audience.

This class will focus on taking it to the next level by exploring advanced features for developing character rigs and systems. We will use MAXScript to develop tool sets that help you create custom reusable character systems. The class will introduce you to new ways of thinking that enable character technical directors to provide character rigs with depth. Attendees should have prior knowledge of rigging in 3ds Max.
In 2009, Autodesk 3ds Max software opened up MAXScript to .NET to enhance user interface design and extend the capability of MAXScript beyond the confines of 3ds Max. With .NET, tool developers can create dynamic and comprehensive production tools to help manage scenes, characters, and data sets, as well as an infinite host of other possibilities. In this class, you will learn to inspect .NET classes and objects and use them to build comprehensive .NET tools in MAXScript. This is an intermediate MAXScript class—participants should have a good working knowledge of MAXScript and the fundamentals of coding, including a good understanding of function, for loops and data types.
This class is about getting the software to do what you want it to do. We will explore the way Autodesk 3ds Max software really handles animation and provides alternatives to straight key framing. Once we establish the baseline of understanding of animation in 3ds Max, we will then veer off into the world of controllers, constraints, parameter wiring, and the Reaction Manager. This class will broaden the horizons of beginning animators or animators who are new to 3ds Max.
