Autodesk® 3ds Max® software provides a comprehensive and flexible set of tools for developing character animation rigs and systems. This class will focus on taking it to the next level by exploring advanced features for developing character rigs and systems. We will use MAXScript to develop tool sets that help you create custom reusable character systems. The class will introduce you to new ways of thinking that enable character technical directors to provide character rigs with depth. Attendees should have prior knowledge of rigging in 3ds Max.
Anyone who has some experience with character rigging and wants to enhance their skill set with new and powerful rigging ideas
Take advantage of the tools and techniques that the pros use on blockbuster films and television commercials to create videos and presentations that will blow your audiences away. If you currently edit video or produce renders for video, you need to attend this class. You' will see how paring Autodesk® Smoke® software for editing and effects with animation products, such as Autodesk® 3ds Max® software, enables a powerful pro video workflow for integrating high-definition video, 3D renders, and 3D data to produce results that surpass the look of standard "corporate video." Replace cumbersome workflows that require round-tripping between editing, 3D, and effects applications with the power of Autodesk products' integrated video, special effects, and 3D pipeline to deliver professional video results.
The Kid Architecture Workshop offered by Professor Jon Davey in Southern Illinois provides young students with a great foundational experience and appreciation for design as a lifelong career. This workshop has been in operation for the past 20 years, providing insights into how students learn about spatial design, building materials, visualization techniques, and using digital technologies to create design solutions. It also provides a solid foundation for students to pursue design or architecture in their post-secondary academic life. The workshop offers valuable data and insights on how learners successfully combine traditional experiential techniques with computer tools when approaching design problem solving. This class will present the Kid Architecture Workshop and will be followed by a panel discussion to find ways of assimilating and applying its findings to other areas of teaching design for a secondary audience.
In 2009, Autodesk 3ds Max software opened up MAXScript to .NET to enhance user interface design and extend the capability of MAXScript beyond the confines of 3ds Max. With .NET, tool developers can create dynamic and comprehensive production tools to help manage scenes, characters, and data sets, as well as an infinite host of other possibilities. In this class, you will learn to inspect .NET classes and objects and use them to build comprehensive .NET tools in MAXScript. This is an intermediate MAXScript class—participants should have a good working knowledge of MAXScript and the fundamentals of coding, including a good understanding of function, for loops and data types.
Games and applications, especially those on continually evolving mobile devices, now occupy an increasing percentage of a student's day. At the same time, performance in math and engineering for that same demographic is dwindling at an alarming rate. To compete in the future and secure promising opportunities, the latter (but not necessarily the former) must change. This class will offer ways to increase class engagement while using—and building—the types of games and applications almost certainly found in nearly every student's pocket.
This class is about getting the software to do what you want it to do. We will explore the way Autodesk 3ds Max software really handles animation and provides alternatives to straight key framing. Once we establish the baseline of understanding of animation in 3ds Max, we will then veer off into the world of controllers, constraints, parameter wiring, and the Reaction Manager. This class will broaden the horizons of beginning animators or animators who are new to 3ds Max.
The educational partnership between Senac SP and Autodesk has improved the learning process and technological training for inserting highly skilled Autodesk 3ds Max software professionals into the market. Senac's way of educating exemplifies flexible and comprehensive work with Autodesk 3ds Max and ensures greater efficiency and effectiveness in teaching and learning Autodesk 3ds Max for use on projects of any complexity.
Autodesk 3ds Max software has more out-of-the-box rendering options than any other digital content creation (DCC) software available today. In this class, Autodesk Senior Technical Specialist Gary M. Davis explores these different solutions and examines when and why users might choose to use the mental ray®, NVIDIA® iRay®, and Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2012 Quicksilver and Scanline rendering engines. The class also explores uses that combine multiple renderers for more complex workflows.
Autodesk products, in particular the entertainment creation suites, offer an opportunity to reinvent learning in language arts, social studies, and other core academic classes. By using a game or movie development approach to core subject learning, you can motivate your students to learn with the use of tools such as Autodesk® 3ds Max®, Autodesk Maya®, and other software products. The variety of Autodesk products, combined with the general principles that have already seen amazing classroom success, could reignite a passion for learning in so many students and schools. You can be part of the solution, as a mentor or teacher or business.
The latest versions of Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk 3ds Max Design software have been recognized for their workflow enhancements, ease of use advances, and new capabilities. In this class, we will present the new features of 3ds Max 2013 and 3ds Max Design 2013 with exploration of Nitrous accelerated graphics core improvements, tabbed viewport layouts, MassFX updates, and the mCloth module, workflow improvements, interoperability with Adobe® After Effects® software, NVIDIA® iray® 2.0, the Autodesk® Revit® interoperability update, and more. We will also be sure to look at the latest benefits for subscription customers.

This class explores some very useful but little-known scripts and plug-ins for Autodesk 3ds Max software that can dramatically improve your workflow without having to write a custom script or app. We will cover animation tools, modeling scripts, 1-off tools that can eliminate modifiers off of multiple objects, and more. Additionally, we will explore some of the free resources that are available to 3ds Max artists and help identify worthy and reliable repositories for these tools.
