Nearly ten years after its first BIM project, J.C. Cannistraro is sharing some lessons learned from modeling, fabricating, and building some of the most high-profile hospital and biotech projects in the Northeast. Using primarily Autodesk® Navisworks® and Autodesk® Fabrication software, we will explain how we use collaborative thinking, Lean methodology, and BIM tools throughout the preconstruction and construction phases to maximize the efficiency of delivery and installation on every project.

We'll explain how we developed a strategy, managed the design, and delivered from concept design to project handover using different digital technologies at different stages. This class will demonstrate how we've created a strategy and EIR for a project that will run for the next 8 years and which will attract future tenants. We’ll show this from a project management point of view: management of the design stakeholders, management of design, BIM for master planning, quantification, the use of BIM for visualisation/VR, and BIM as a product to attract tenants. This class will be an introduction to the Object Modeling Framework API, which is a powerful extension of AutoCAD software’s ObjectARX API, and is the backbone for products like AutoCAD Architecture software, AutoCAD MEP software, and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. To begin with, we will introduce AutoCAD software’s ObjectARX API to set the platform for product customization using API. Subsequently, the class will cover some important theoretical concepts in the Object Modeling Framework API, which will be supported by ready-to-demo sample applications. Many AutoCAD software add-ins depend on a database to store relevant information. For years, databases such as Microsoft Access were used to give multiple users access to the same data. At some point, it may have become necessary to move on to a more powerful platform such as SQL Server or Oracle. Now moving to a cloud-based database such as Microsoft Azure SQL database is easy enough to demonstrate the entire process from beginning to end in a 90-minute class. Developers no longer need to wait for their IT department to create a new virtual server and install software before they can begin work on a new project. MEP fabrication has been a hot topic for many years. It seems only the larger companies are taking advantage of this opportunity. In this class we will discuss the fundamental elements that make a successful fabrication shop and we’ll explore the possibilities of making fabrication functional for a smaller company. We will talk about material flow, people flow, automation, equipment placement, bulk buying, material movement, cultural/behavior changes, software, Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination, effects on job-site safety, early turnover, and packaging for delivery to job sites.
