Description

Description

Understanding railings in Revit software is difficult to begin with, but creating custom handrails is an additional challenge. Often the various railing components available, and the traditional methods to combine the components into a railing, are not adequate for the creation of desired handrails. For this reason, creating work-arounds, or hacks, is necessary to achieve the desired look. In this session, we will discuss some options regarding how to customize handrails and how they are created. This session will share several nontraditional procedures that you can use in projects to create customized handrails—be sure to be ready to share your hacks too! This session isn’t going to show handrails as trains, canopies, or anything else. It will show how to use the tools we have to make them meet our requirements. In the prerequisite session to this one, “Rationalizing Revit Railings,” we will discuss all the intricate facets and nested components that compose railings. This session features Revit. Brian Mackey

Better known as The Revit Geek, Brian Mackey has spent over 25 years in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry—more than 10 of which have been focused on Revit software and Building Information Modeling (BIM). After nearly a decade of working with architects and engineers to advance BIM in their companies, Mackey started his BIM consulting company in 2011 to focus on custom high-level training and mentoring. Mackey has clients all over the United States and Canada who generally tolerate his sarcastic nature in exchange for his wide breadth of BIM knowledge. Mackey showcases his love of talking about Revit software, or maybe just his love of talking, in a monthly, light-hearted, occasionally irreverent, free question-and-answer webcast—Revit Radio. Mackey is a regular speaker at many conferences, including Autodesk University, BIM Workshops, and Revit Technology Conferences, where he has been awarded Top Speaker several times. Mackey met his wife, Dezi, at Autodesk University, and they welcomed #BIMbino Vienna into their family in 2013, for a total of 3 daughters—and in 2016 they welcomed a son, #BIMbino R2, Paxton.
