CAD standards are a bone of contention for every CAD manager. For me, CAD standards are all about a single thing—productivity. It's all about decision-making. I don't want you spending time deciding what font to use or what lineweight to draw with. Those tasks don’t increase the project’s value. I want you to be able to focus on creating drawings that sell ideas to a client or help make manufacturing quicker and easier. You shouldn't need to worry about CAD standards. In this class I'll take you through the exact steps that I use to create a comprehensive set of tool palettes that deploy our company CAD standards. I'll show you how to deploy your tool palettes on the network, and how to update them from a central file. We will push as hard as we can into deploying scripts and macros from tool palettes, and cover some of the tips and hacks of tool palettes that you won't find in the help file.

Paul Munford is an Application Engineer for Graitec UK. Until recently Paul was a specialist joinery draughtsman (a “setter out”) and CAD/CAM manager fora U.K.-based high-end custom furniture contractor. Paul had 8 years of experience “on the tools” before joining the CAD department in 2005. As an Application Engineer, Paul handles licensing, deployment, and training for AutoCAD software and Inventor software. Paul also uses AutoCAD and Inventor to create manufacturing “workshop” for Graitec’s customers. In this hands-on lab, users will learn advanced customization for new and improved Drawing Styles, suiting specific requirements for detail drawings. We will cover improved beam symbol object presentation; beam alignment information in object label and continuous leader lines; improved leader line creation for labels at 45 degrees on plan/elevation views; enhanced manual dimensions on nonstandard points; manual radial dimension preferred snap points; manual adjustment of grid extension lines to avoid overlapping balloons; symbol presentation for node drawing border clipping lines; the new engineering category added in the Drawing Styles palette; new behavior for non-stand-alone defaults set the defaults in Management Tools; added simplified script contents in the Drawing Process Manager; and particular font symbol characters in the labels created. This class will focus on assisting CAD beginners in the use of all aspects of the Publishing Tool in AutoCAD software to plot multiple drawings in both digital and hard-copy paper formats. Attendees will learn how to publish an entire sheet set from the Sheet Set Manager, and also by using individual drawing sheet page setups. We will develop, save, and edit a listing of drawings using the Drawing Set Descriptions (DSD) file. Managing printing, plotting, and publishing in a multiproject and multidiscipline environment can be a daunting challenge to a CAD manager. As mobile technology comes of age on the construction site, the use of iPads and BIM 360 Docs software can now replace the paper plans of the past. The transition to this new environment can be smooth and seamless, or it can be hindered by multiple false starts. This class will provide a live demonstration of the complete process of implementing a BIM 360 Docs project for a sample fire-protection construction project.
