Realistic light simulation is increasingly becoming more important to the design process, whether it is to support the design of a car's head and tail lamp clusters, or assessing how lights can is distributed around the interior of a railway carriage to support brand identity or how a room in a building is lit. This class with shed light (!) onto these topics describing how the various features of Autodesk VRED can be used to achieve different lighting effects. Attendees will learn amongst other topics how to differentiate between the various ray trace modes, how to use light simulation data and how the realistic modelling of materials is important to the overall scene visualisation

This session talks about Autodesk's collaboration with the oldest privately-owned car manufacturer, Morgan Motor Company, for the 84th Geneva International Motor Show. Morgan was looking for a way to showcase the extreme personalization they offer for the Morgan 3 Wheeler, and Autodesk was able to provide a 3D configurator based on Autodesk VRED to allow visiting customers to configure their dream car on Morgan's stand at the show. Morgan's configurator was the only one at the show with the ability to render high quality images in realtime based on a true 3D model, rather than relying on pre-rendered views of a finite set of configuration options. Members of the team involved in the project will talk about its inception, development and delivery, describing the unique value this technology solution provides to automotive manufacturers. The configurator will be available live for members of the audience to try out.
This class will teach you the basics of Autodesk VRED real-time visualization software, and afterward you should be able to import and stage any vehicle. Dawn McArdle will demonstrate first-hand the simple workflows and tips and tricks gained from hours of her experience. You will learn this program quickly and should be able to immediately implement it with confidence. Using provided 3D vehicle files and 2D texture files, you will learn how to navigate, import, and prepare the vehicle model, assign materials, and set up lighting/shadows. Students will set up moving parts on the vehicle, and animate the camera. Some camera effects, such as depth of field and motion blur will be demonstrated. Finally, we will pull it all together by setting up variants (key-prompted commands to show variations during presentations) and output rendered images, with an understanding of the many options available for openGL and raytracing.
