DWF and DWFx and Autodesk VaultAuthor: Allen Gager, KHS USA Inc.

Hopefully by now everybody knows how great DWFs are and that you can download Design Review for free. DWF allows you to share your designs with other stakeholders. The only minor downside to using Design Review is sometimes a client won't know what to do with a DWF. Or, they may have policies in place that do not allow the installation of software. Luckily with the 2009 release of products, DWFx was introduced.
The beauty of a DWFx is that it has all of the benefits of using DWFs to share data. The bonus is that Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft Vista can read DWFx files natively. This means you can eliminate the software installation barrier.
When a CAD file is checked into Autodesk Vault, the vault client publishes a DWF of the file by default. You can change this to DWFx by adjusting the setting DWFType in the Publish Options.xml. DWFType= DWFx
Note: For complete instructions see the Publishing Options for Autodesk Vault 2009 white paper which gives you all the options available when publishing a DWF or DWFx.
