Apply Early
Be sure to allow plenty of time for the visa application process—the wait time for getting an embassy or consulate appointment can be several months long. Check the consulate website for visa wait times.
Your embassy may require you to submit an "invitation letter" before it will issue you a visa. Please have the following information available:
- Legal First Name (as it appears on your passport)
- Legal Last Name (as it appears on your passport)
- Date of Birth (mm/dd/yyyy)

- Passport Issuing Country
- Country of Residence
Visa Waiver Program
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) will be accessible via the internet for citizens and eligible nationals of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries to apply for advance authorization to travel to the United States under VWP. Effective January 12, 2009, all VWP travelers will be required to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the U.S. under the VWP.
