Class Audience

AEC professionals with intermediate Revit knowledge

Class Description

This class will show you how to leverage your family building knowledge by moving beyond static families and empowering you to create parametric marvels. Learn some of the essential math and formulas that can help you drive geometry based on required relationships, evaluate and restrict user input to set ranges, use Boolean operations to control visibility based on other parameter values, and discuss parameter naming strategies. We will also look at advanced formula examples that calculate complex geometrical relationships to achieve seemingly impossible results.

Class Highlights

  • Creating families with geometry driven by calculated values

  • Evaluating user input and use the results to flex the family

  • Controlling visibility of elements based on geometrical relations and parameter values

  • Building more useful families with calculated arrays

When I downloaded the powerpoint and opened the zip file, I found a bunch of files with .xml and .jpeg extensions on them but no .ppt file. Did the powerpoint upload or have I done something incorrectly? - ignorant computer user :-) 12-12-2008 3:46PM

Naaaahhh, don't beat yourself up :) I just downloaded the powerpoint and had the same issue. The system is automatically zipping it as I uploaded the pptx file yesterday and not a zip. It seems to be having issues with the pptx format. I just zipped it myself, uploaded, downloaded and this time it works fine. Give it a shot. 12-12-2008 4:23PM

Hi Tilden. Thanks for pointing that out. Do you mind sending an email to Joseph Wurcher at joseph.wurcher@autodesk.com? Thanks! 12-10-2008 7:46PM

David- It was a nice closing chapter to watch you at AU2008. Is there a way I could access your files to reverse engineer them. I need to watch the presentation and work on the files sis by side. 12-10-2008 8:41AM

Glad you liked it! Autodesk is working on giving speakers access to upload content and as soon as that happens, I'll upload everything. They must have hit some technical difficulties but I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon. Stay tuned... 12-10-2008 7:48PM
