Sheet metal design professionals with an advanced knowledge of Autodesk Inventor

Class Description

Learn how to successfully design sheet metal components utilizing non-sheet metal features. This session will familiarize you with the abilities and limitations of unfolding sheet metal components so that judicious model choices can be made. Several surface-based design workflows will be explored to illustrate how true sheet metal conditions can be ensured when adding and removing material. Punch tool authoring and placement will be explored, with an emphasis on punch feature construction, alternate representations and embedded manufacturing information.

Class Highlights

  • Guidelines for creating an unfoldable sheet metal component based on surface modeling techniques

  • How to use surface tools to create sheet metal conditions

  • How cladding can be combined with derived component workflows

  • The important abilities and limitations of combining local operation features with sheet metal

  • How to construct a robust punch feature without using work geometry

  • The output capabilities of punch alternate representations

  • Which data can be stored within punches and how to edit it after initial authoring

  • The flat pattern’s interaction and effect upon punch features

i downloaded file, it looks like a zip, how do i watch it? 04-27-2009 1:16PM

Sometimes the new 2007 Microsoft formats look like zips because of their new format. If you have Powerpoint 2007, rename the zip file to pptx and it should work. If you have 2003, let me know I can get you a different format. 04-27-2009 1:42PM

Oh, so THAT'S how you're supposed to work with sheet metal tools!!! I'm giving your presentation a "super"! The workflow of Surface>Split>Thicken is a game-changer for this newbie. Now, if someone could show me how to get a table of the Workpoints I create that displays the x, y and z values, I'd be set. 02-21-2009 8:00AM

How do you view the power point. The zip file doesn't include a pptx file. Any help would be great 12-19-2008 2:25PM

There should be three seperate downloads available. The zip file contains datasets, the handout is in pdf format and then the presentation is in powerpoint (pptx). The icon for the presentation looks like a pie chart. If its still not showing up, you can try this direct link:

Ahh, I see what's gone wrong here. The new .pptx format is a package file like zip, it looks like its getting confused and renaming itself 'zip'. Replace the .zip file extension with .pptx and everything should work fine. 12-19-2008 3:02PM
