Designers and CAD managers working in multi-part design environments

Class Description

This class will explore how assemblies and other multi-component designs can be organized using both AutoCAD and AutoCAD Mechanical. We will compare several of the most commonly used techniques for defining parts in AutoCAD, including: layers, local blocks, and externally referenced blocks. We will then look at the additional tools and techniques available inside AutoCAD Mechanical: Layer Groups, Structure and the Vault. You will then be able to choose the best technique for your project and company situation.

We will then look at how to effectively create Bills of Materials for each technique, using AutoCAD table and data extraction tools or AutoCAD Mechanical BOM tools where appropriate. In addition, we will see how the improved Associative Hide command in AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 can be used for each different technique.

    Dumb question, but my classmates wanted me to ask if there is a way to turn a 2D multi-view into an iso, easily, in AutoCAD Mechanical? 12-10-2008 8:59AM

    No, unfortunately the only easy way to create an iso, or any other non-orthogonal view, is to use a solids modeling tool, such as Inventor. 12-22-2008 1:13PM
