AU Blog (BLAUG)
The latest from the AU Team as they work on Autodesk University—the conference, AU Virtual, and AU Online—year 'round.
Class handouts are now available for download from the AU Event site. If you do not see a handout for your class, it is because the speaker has not provided one yet. Check back regularly to see if it is available.
This year we are making handouts available before the event so you can review them beforehand to get a better sense of the class or to leave you time to contact the speaker in advance if you have any questions about the class.
Printed copies of handouts for sessions will not be available on-site as in years past—except handouts for hands-on labs—and printers will not be available at the conference. We are providing printed handouts for hands-on lab sessions because hardcopy is necessary when you have to follow a particular process step-by-step.
Although not required, if you prefer a hardcopy handout for a class, you are welcome to print it or as an alternative, you can upload it to a digital device instead.
Before you leave for Las Vegas:
An alternative way to get to your class handouts, or if you want to print handouts for classes you are not enrolled in, go to the AU 2009 class catalog and search for the class. In the Session ID column, click the appropriate link for the session. You will see the class details page and the Class Materials links.
BTW, we are providing class materials for all sessions on the AU Online website after the event, so you won't need to write everything down. This will include handouts, presentations, and recordings of most sessions. So you have lots of flexibility this year.

0 Comments Posted On November 19, 2009 at 6:46AM Last year, Autodesk University hosted its first Cut&Paste Design Slam—a lively on-stage competition in digital industrial design and architecture—that brought top designers from three firms together for two evenings of fast-paced showmanship and quick-witted creativity, and the event was a rousing success.
This year the Cut&Paste Design Slam returns to Autodesk University with a new twist: in one of the competitions Autodesk executives will face-off against each other to design for the legendary British spy James Bond. Should be both entertaining and enlightening.
In each competition this year, designers will create original work in rounds of 20 minutes, using their favorite weapon among a variety of Autodesk 2010 software tools. They will perform in front of a live (and sometime vocal) audience, and their work will be projected on large-scale screens, accompanied by loud and energetic music.
Make sure you leave time for this exciting event in your schedule. You don’t want to miss it!
BTW, if you’re attending AU Virtual, you too can join the fun. Look for both nights’ competitions in the AU Virtual class catalog, then be sure to reserve your space when you register.

0 Comments Posted On November 16, 2009 at 7:05PM If you love Hollywood films, we have a very special treat for AU attendees this year. As many of you know, Autodesk plays a significant role in supporting our entertainment customers who create the stunning visual effects in the movies and games we all enjoy. We have a very special presentation this year: Academy® Award-winning producer Jon Landau from Lightstorm Entertainment will join us.
Jon partnered with James Cameron to produce Titanic, one of the most successful films of all time. The Academy-award winning film still holds the box office record of $1.8 billion and broke new ground in using visual effects as a storytelling device. Jon and Mr. Cameron have just wrapped production on their latest project, Avatar (see the movie trailer). Shot entirely in 3D, the highly-anticipated picture opens December 18.
In making Avatar, the Lightstorm team made the impractical possible. They created an entire virtual world and brought it on stage to shoot their movie using a new motion picture production process called virtual cinematography. What is virtual cinematography? Join us and find out.
Jon will give a short presentation in Carl’s CEO address in the morning on Tuesday, December 1. Later in the afternoon, Jon will join SVP’s Amar Hanspal and Marc Petit in the AutoCAD and M&E Keynote where he will present 15 minutes of James Cameron’s highly anticipated film Avatar in Dolby 3D, ahead of the movie’s release!
And if you’d like to learn more, we invite you to a session on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in South Seas I on Level 3 of the South Convention Center. Lightstorm’s Nolan Murtha will give a special presentation on how the techniques pioneered during the making of Avatar can apply to the future of architectural visualization.

As a PowerTrack attendee, you will have a unique opportunity to meet with some of the PowerTrack speakers at the end of the day.
