AU BLAUG
Call for Proposals draws more than 2000 submissions
The AU Las Vegas 2013 Call for Proposals closed May 19. Our thanks to all of you who submitted more than 2000 proposals this year. We know it takes a lot of time and research to develop a proposal, and we appreciate your efforts in making AU an exceptional place to learn.
If you didn't get a chance to submit a proposal this year, but want to know when the AU 2014 Call for Proposals opens, sign up to be notified.
Submissions: where were they from?
Submissions were about equal to last year’s record-breaking amount. About 600 proposals (30%) came from outside the United States. Top countries included the United Kingdom (140 submissions), Canada (103), Australia (78), Germany (29), and Switzerland (26).
Like the AU community itself, proposal submitters were from 43 countries around the globe. Here’s a breakdown:
| Argentina | Australia | Austria | Belgium | Brazil |
| Canada | Chile | China | Colombia | Czech Republic |
| Denmark | Dominican Republic | Egypt | France | Germany |
| Hong Kong | India | Indonesia | Israel | Italy |
| Japan | Lebanon | Lithuania | Mexico | The Netherlands |
| New Zealand | Norway | Peru | Poland | Portugal |
| Russian Federation | Singapore | Slovenia | South Africa | Spain |
| Sweden | Switzerland | Ukraine | United Arab Emirates | United Kingdom |
| United States | Vietnam |
Here’s a few other stats:
- Total number of individuals submitting: 965
- Most submissions by any one person: 9 (3 people accomplished this)
What was different this year?
We asked for more pre-class or follow-up roundtables this year so that participants can go more in depth on key aspects of a lecture class or lab, and the AU community responded well. In addition, we received a good balance of 60 and 90 minute class proposals.
Who decides on the curriculum?
AU Las Vegas 2013 will feature a well-rounded curriculum of 650 classes. The track managers and AU Team are already starting the process of reviewing all of the proposals. Here’s what happens:
- Our track leads gather input from their teams with Autodesk.
- We draw on the experience of 2 industry experts who are our customers.
- We use input from the AU community survey.
- We reach out to other experts in the Autodesk community.
Speakers will be notified on June 27 by email. All proposal submitters will also receive an email on that date.

It’s certainly not too early to start thinking about the topics you’d like to present at AU this year. The Call for Proposals opens in just 3 weeks on April 23.
What can you can share with others? What are the new and emerging trends in your industry? Discuss your ideas with your colleagues. Ask them about topics that they would find interesting.
What We’re Looking for This Year
- More advanced classes—In-depth classes that examine a product in detail and teach attendees new and efficient ways to use their Autodesk® software.
- Process and workflow strategies—Classes that show attendees how to use multiple Autodesk® products together and make optimal use of Autodesk design and creation suites. Handoffs within and between products are increasingly important for users.
- Business management solutions—Classes that help attendees improve company workflow, collaboration, and overall efficiency; provide strategies for adopting and implementing new technologies; and share methods for improving concept-to-completion cycles.
We plan to offer 22 tracks and they will be similar to those offered at AU 2012. To clarify the audience for some of this year’s tracks and to better reflect where particular industries are headed, we’ve made a few track name changes:
| AU 2012 | AU 2013 |
| Facilities Management | Building Owners and Operators |
| Utilities and Telecommunications | Utilities |
| Customization and Programming | Developer |
| Digital Entertainment Techniques | Entertainment |
